Start a new game, play it until you can walk around, pick something up, then load your save. Should work. I think the offical advice is clear the cache, but that didn't work for me, whereas the above did, possibly because it actually clears / resets the cache. |

Registered 15 years agoYep, tried clearing the cache, per official advice, & it did nothing, then read about starting a new game & loading, which worked. However, after playing for a few hours, after leaving a building, I got the old black screen, which inevitably meant a corript auto-save, & having not played this for ages, guess who forgot to make regular saves?
I give up. This sort of shit shouldn't still be going on. This is far worse than when I first played through the game. -
I looked at getting the Gun Runners DLC yesterday when I also happened to notice the Couriers Stash DLC. When was this released? It's an extra 160 MS points (Gun Runners is 320 iirc) and both, I would assume, would be more of a benefit to new characters rather than max level characters?
Checking on the wiki, Couriers Stash really only has the hip-flask that's of any interest, and even then it would be best to start another new Hardcore character to get any benefit out of that, and I can't be arsed to start another one after 2 full playthroughs now, so no sale for me on that one.
Did anyone with a lvl 50 get the Gun Runners DLC and, if so, is it worth bothering with? I'm all for being a completionist and whatnot, but not if it involves having to run around for a few hours shooting things for no other benefit than cheesing up my achievement ratio. Ta. -

Gun runners is different types of mods, weapons and ammo from shops. Some good stuff; especially the explosive ammo for the Anti material rifle! (works like the explosive rifle in red dead. took out 3 fiends in one shot)
Honest hearts is really good and have had no problems with it. i prefer this to OWB and LR and thats just my opinion before i get labelled a troll bythe Daily mail bridage on here! -
Cheers Max, thinking about it I 'll probably hold off a couple of months and then get both if I get the itch to start a new character.
Glad you're enjoying HH, the scenery is totally different to most of the rest of the game (nice bright greens and blues and a sense of "life" in the wasteland). You get some tidy items from it too by the end of the DLC

Registered 14 years agoI really liked HH too, not sure why it got so much stick really. Not as good as OWB but on par with LR in my opinion. Then again, I'm weird and quite liked DM too.
Did Gun Runners as level 49-50. Thought it was going to be a grind, but really wasn't too bad in the end. Not sure I'd bother if I'd completed everything else, but as I was in the process of cleaning up a few last achievements, I thought why not. One of the few games I've bothered getting 100% in. -

Registered 15 years agoSo I am realllllllly late to the party on this one, as I was on Fallout 3 (which I loved and harvested all achievements on all the DLC).
Irritating continuacy issues so far on this largely revolving around wearing specific armor. Very interesting game mechanic it just sometimes feels a bit broken..
Just wondering is there anyway you can reverse someone hating and attacking you? I am thinking specifically of the Legionnaire dudes who keep shooting at me repeatedly in the Wastelands..

Registered 14 years agoOk, bit weird. But I played this solidly on my PS3 after launch until it became unplayable. Is it any better now? Or is it still buggered after long playtimes? I'd quite like to actually complete the game, but after my first game glitched, and the second became unplayable, I'm understandably reluctant to get involved again if it's just going to start grinding to a halt and forcing my PS3 to hard reset.
I think I now have a vague understanding as to why a domestically abused wife goes back to her partner as I'm ordering Skyrim after Christmas (albeit on PC this time
) -
It has the same issue Skyrim does on PS3, it's mad they even release it with that issue still about! -

Registered 14 years agoGutted, Forlorn Hope I think it was, was quite literally unplayable because of Lag. I gave up when I started to worry that it might actually be killing my PS3.
Depressing that all the things they are saying about Skyrim on the Ps3 now (working on it etc...) are exactly what they kept saying for this. In the end I abandoned it and figured I'd just wait until some DLC was out in the hope it would all be fixed. £35 lost on my part, although I didn't make the same mistake with Skyrim. Wonder how long they can keep screwing over customers before it hurts their wallets. Considering I'm getting Skyrim on PC after Christmas, clearly not soon because of mugs like me
Have they at least made it so the save files can be bigger before it goes to shit? As New Vegas would start going tits up when I reached Hoover Dam. If I can get to around 60 hours before it starts screwing up I could maybe reduce my exploration a bit.
Edit:
When was that flying_pig? If it was after some patches then I might well give it another go. How many hours on those playthroughs? How big were the save files if you happen to have a rough idea?

Registered 15 years agoThink there were a few patches during the DLC spell, seemed to help a great deal. Last time I fired it up it was fairly stable, bar a few stutters. Think I was finishing off the Alpha/Queen Deathclaws and finding some unique loot over a few days, last save file at 96 hours, 13MB.
A vast improvement over the 70+ lockups/crashes in as many hours during the week after release. ;_; -

Registered 18 years agoMy beef with the hardcore mode is that purified water is in far too good supply. I never ran out. I ended up stockpiling hundreds of bottles in my home. There was never a reason to drink irradiated water.
The other issue I had was that campfires were too rare. As a result the survival skill was a bit useless. A portable campfire would have been great. -

Registered 13 years agoHardcore mode was fine, and apart from some crippled limbs messing me up a few times it was great fun. It was actually less of a challenge than I expected. I didn't lug a rocket launcher about with me and kept weapons carried to the bare minimum. As mrharvest said, there's plentiful supplies out there. I even ended up with masses of doctors bags too eventually.
Stay away from Deathclaws for a long time though! -

Registered 17 years agoHi lads
Very cheeky of me, but anyway
Does anyone have the GOTY ? and would lend me the 2nd (dlc) disc to wack on the 360hd ? I would return post by rec mail of course and through in a Mars bar (not mars bar party however
) -
Hmm, there's a new GOTY copy of this going for €20 in my local gaming dungeon for the PS3. Is it worth a shot or does it suffer from 'Bethesdaitis' and if it does, are the patches adequate?
Edit - just looking through some of the above posts, i'm sticking to my guns and showing the two middle fingers to Bethesda. Plenty of other cheap games worthy of a purchase.

I'd fuck the complainers and go for it. Despite everything, patches fixed alot, and it's a cracker. -

One small problem. The PS3 GOTY version is considered to be a different version (all on one BR, different ID), and therefore has NO patches available for it. So, much like the F3 GOTY, it's an absolutely horrible broken mess, similar to the launch version of the original. Reviews/forums were bleating about it on the weekend it was released, general consensus was to avoid.

F3 GOTY was never patched, and I had to grab another copy of the vanilla version to work with the installed DLC. The same idea will probably work here, but I've no confirmation.
Utterly ridiculous that Bethesda would repeat the same mistake, but well, what do we expect....... -
Ahh I didnt realise that. Poor show! -

Registered 17 years agoThis is ridiculous. I can't walk 100 yards without groups of 6 Legion Assassins spawning and kicking my arse. Their armour and weapons way out class mine and it takes pretty much all my ammo to take out one group of them.
Seems like 12 hours just chucked down the crapper, as I can't find any way passed it. -
Turn around and run as fast as you can?
