Is the PC version playable or a knackered mess?
  • Deleted user 1 February 2015 08:12:50
The PC version is playable, but you'll need to do a bit of modding to get it there. I had constant CTD on Windows 8.1 in one of the DLC areas (OMG!). Off the top of my head it was due to the autosave knackering everything up, a save manager mod is top of the list to get. I'll have a look in my downloads folder later to see what else I used...

Well worth the effort though, I had a great time with it.

It could just be me but I encountered no major bugs in New Vegas on PS3. Thought it was a big improvement, bug wise, over F3.

Still, probably my 2 favourite games of all time.

    Where are you Fallout 4?

    @dfunked Cheers :)

I'll have to find the time to dip in at some point.

There were just those crappy snow globes. Snow globes are just insulting, when you had the glory of the bobbleheads before.

Stay clear if the Sierra madre (or whatever it's called). Dlc. It's awful and my character is stuck there and unable to complete it due to no ammo and loads of those shadow thingies kicking my butt.

Once you get to Freeside the game opens up.

I restarted with a brand new 360 ultimate edition. Did about 60 hours before even entering the Strip. Doing some DLC while I decide what to do with the factions (I hate big decisions!). Loving it.

I'm at about 80 hours with no crashes or hang ups. There was something fundamentally wrong with my PS3 save. Playing it made me think how far graphics had come on in that generation - but playing on the 360 makes me think my PS3 wasn't loading half the textures, it was like Fallout Minecraft. I don't think the sound was working either.

Some completely loving it - easily filling the Fallout 4 wait :)

Yeah, just wait until the PS3 saves break the 10MB threshold, because you'll be weeping at the constant lock-ups beyond that point.......

I can offer the advice of turning off all auto-saving, and rely on manual only, which minimises the chances of it occurring. You'll need to remember to save as when it will happen, it's always when you haven't saved for hours.

Fundamentally broken (memory leak bug) which tarnished it somewhat in retrospect.

    It's called "Dead Money".

The best DLC I think was" Old World Blues" though I ignored the recommended level advice and went in there and got my ass kicked. I still beat it though, very carefully. I remember it being very humourous and a lot of fun, with some great loot. I'd have liked to do Lonesome Road to finish that DLC story arc but never got around to it. The Burnt Guy DLC "Something - Hearts?" bored ke. quickly and I never tried the others.
Agreed - Dead Money was awful, Honest Hearts was OK, but pretty dull. Old World Blues was great - easily the best of the 3 DLCs. I didn't bother with the last DLC - Lonesome Road, I think it's called - because apparently it just turns the game into a corridor shooter.

    I'd buy Fallout 4 in a heartbeat.

Actually Skyrim PS3 has been fixed. It runs just fine these days. New Vegas still runs like a dog though (and it's butt ugly compared to Skyrim).

Best bet is to turn off all autosaving. You're constantly on knife edge that way though. It runs a bit better and is less likely to crash, but if you forget to save you can lose hours of progress to a crash anyway.

It's ridiculous how much better all of these things ran on 360.

Due to South Park tsot now getting released next year :( I will at very last start this game soon. It is behind only ACIV and DiabloIII now :)
...so 2 years on and I'm 5 hours into NV having started yesterday. I'm still playing Witcher on xb1 and a few hours into TESonline on ps4 but with my excitement of all things Fallout being almost as high as my excitement of all things Gears I thought it was about time!

It is obviously brilliant (Fallout3 in my top 5 ever list of games) not happy that Sunny bought it, I didn't even realize :(

Not the best time to be playing 3 huge rpg's, what with the kids off and all, but I will give it a shot, until Aug 28th when all bets are off. Who needs sleep before work anyway.

@DUFFMAN5 are you on PC? I would suggest getting some mods installed, the range of mods for NV is incredible

I began and then completed the Lonesome Road DLC after the Eurogamer article a couple of weeks ago made me nostalgic for New Vegas. Highly, highly recommended.

If Fallout IV is half as good as either 3 or NV, I'll be getting a current gen console in a heartbeat.
