Or...people just like things that you don't. We should just round em up and take them to a film reeducation centre, that'll teach them.
Yes, stretching someone's point to absurdity is always an indication of a well thought out argument. Well done you.

Anyway, I am the demographic for these kinds of films. Generally speaking, I will go and see them because they do appeal, but, that doesn't stop me wanting them to at least do something different from one another. You don't have to force yourself to love something just because you feel you should. What's wrong with you nerds? You know you're allowed to be critical of something you love right? You can be discerning. You are allowed to have some standards and aspirations beyond more of the same old same old.

Besides all that, look at my last post for further clarification on the point I was making.

I know, I read your point regarding the Western genre, it had merit and I agree with you, right up until you mentioned the word 'Nerds'.

Ha, nice. Honestly though I won't deny I love the superhero genre, I also love other kinds of films even wanky, navel gazing films. However I think most fans of comic book films rightly call out films that have been a pile of shit. I'm still yet to find an ardent supporter of BvS.

Movie themes broadly speaking shift when there's cultural trends to go with them. Westerns rose with the start of the American Century, 70s counter culture saw a rise in more gritty drama and experimental cinema, the rise of capitalism brought about the modern blockbuster, big noisy 80s-esque action movies effectively stopped for a while after 9/11, etc.

Weirdly, one of the best ways to see the trends is to follow the Bond movies, as they're about the longest running. They generally followed the popular template of the time and fell out of fashion when that template changed, until they could refashion or reboot in some way.

Fwiw, we're not really in "superhero" trends anymore, but "cinematic universe" trends, where every movie is connected in some way to a larger picture, which broadly speaking has followed a rise in globalist thinking. If Trump's reverse on that actually takes hold, you'll probably start to see a decline of that.

Thats fair. And as much as I hate to admit it - considering we have never got on - you had a point about exagerrating to the point of absurdity with what Jambo said.

So is this film as shit as it looks and as it's reviewed? Up for a cinema trip but everything out at the moment looks terrible.

I admit it, I was being a lil bit of a mischief maker there.

Anyway back on topic, I'll definitely watch this when I'm all well, I'm intrigued to see if DC have actually learned anything from the whole BvS fiasco, because as much as I love the MCU I would like the other side to pull their finger out.

It's sitting at 93% on RT. Hopefully it is "that shit".

It's a decent effort. To e is somewhere between the first Captain America and Band of Brothers. It's a long watch though with a fair few scenes that do nothing to progress the narrative or character arcs.

Is this properly centred on Gadot or does Pine get a sneaky amount of screen time?

    Hm, about a 50/50 split I'd say.

Hmmm, not great but I suppose it is her first leading role.

Saw it tonight, I thought it was fantastic and gal was stunning in every way.

Some of it came over a wee bit cloying at the end,"love conquers all" or some shit, but some of it was poignant too in light of all the recent things happening in this country.
After all the shit dc has been pumping out this was head and shoulders above the rest, in fairness I thought ww and batman were the only two good things to come out of bvs. Surprised to see it was weta as some of the cgi was a bit off, as for the ending it had to be bigger and louder to match her. As far as That was concerned I can't see how she needs any of the other jl crew.

It's been reported that this is the biggest opening for a female director ever, breaking $100 million in it's opening weekend.

Pine's character is how we see WW, so yeah, although she's front and centre it never lets us forget how alien she is compared with the modern world compared with him.

    @Rivuzu

Yeah I would agree with that. I felt that it focused a little more on Pine to start with, but it gradually shifted toward Gal as things progressed.

My favourite bit: when she went nuclear and tore down the church tower.

It's certainly a bit ott in places but that's fine, somehow I accepted it as I'm in love with her now. Just don't know how they can go bigger with her now as she's a fucking one woman wrecking ball.

Agreed. In fact I might stick my neck out and say that entire sequence (including the storming of the line) might just be the best set-piece I've seen in the comic book genre for a fair few years. It's not even just the action choreography, the way it's written into the film and what it represents for the character really make for a genuinely rousing moment.

As a whole I thoroughly enjoyed the film, but I'd agree with the consensus that it loses it's way towards the end, falling into the giant CG battle trap that so many of these films fall victim to.
