Stuck on one last clue - I'm 99% sure that the letters I've got are correct.

"Apes put human in broth I steam" (12)

    _ M _ E _ S _ N _ T _ S

    Any ideas?

My biology teacher wrote this on my homework, harmless enough I guess, but he continued with "..like you!"

    Lock thread now.

That site is shit. I put Boo's letters and the letter count in there and it couldn't even find a fucking simple word like impersonates.

I'm glad I'm not the only one - I don't get them at all. Even when people explain them, they just seem ridiculous.

Crosswords are a stupid bloody waste of time.

I'm useless at Cryptic Crosswords, I worked backwards for that one..

Its all about knowing the hidden rules with CCs you need to keep doing them as well otherwise (like me) you'll forget all the meanings of certain turns of phrase..

    broth = thick soup
    Fixed.

I get the clue, apart from the broth bit. Wank.

The real answer is: Ape is a primate and they are notorious for eating their offspring in a steamy soup.

So rearrange "primate" and "me son" and you get impersonates.

    Simples ;)

Richie: Hey, I'll tell you what! Why don't we think of another word that
means ironmonger but only has six letters?
Eddie: Ha! Well, that'd be cheating, wouldn't it?
    Richie: Who's to know?
Eddie: Ha! You're right me old pal, hahahaa! We get through a few
    scrapes, don't we?
