I remain cautiously hopeful. Very cautiously. It's about time I played 1 and 2 again, actually, been over two years now. Wonder if I can get them working in win7? |

If it's third person and has no Stephen Russell, they can keep their smelly not-thief game. Not seeing Thief 4 in his credits at IMDB, so it's not looking good. -

Registered 16 years agoWhat's the latest on Thief 4? Eidos Montreal man responds to annoyances with Deus Ex Human Revolution (sounds flustered).
See also the thread At some point, it just becomes sadistic in which the Thief 4 forum posters caught a glimpse of an EM rep and sought to get an update. The outcome, a confirmation that the question had been asked.
Uh... wait, actual news! An article from a couple days ago about Thief 4!
Thief 4 represents a reboot of a franchise loved by millions
details of staffer's activities on the game -
Developing pre-production concepts into fully-designed systems (rewards schedule, shops, escape gates, public zones, etc.)
Designing the side-content of the gameʼs hub: activities, enticers, goals, flow and rewards
Formulating the design guidelines for “extreme situations”; memorable scripted sequences with altered controls, camera and/or gameplay rules. -
ahhh, the self important true fans. I never, ever can take them seriously. -

Registered 20 years agoI'm going to assume you're the sort of mouth-breathing auto-aim atmosphere-deficient console retard these sort of changes are made for =)
The direction changes they took in Deadly Shadows were irritating, but bearable. Does seem awfully likely their going to head deeper into spacker land for this one though, -
I own a console, therefore my IQ is 25% lower than someone who plays on a PC.
I am quite prepared to believe Thief 4 could go wrong, and be watered down and broken. But I can also quite believe it could change and still be fantastic and the 'true fans' will hate it.
But I detest the smug, self-righteous and utterly childish attitude the minority takes to its precious toy, arguing over tiny changes and extrapolating what it wants when it wants, and ignoring other things because it'd ruin their toy throwing exercise BEFORE ANYTHING IS EVEN KNOWN. You see it on all game sub forums, and it's just pathetic.
(general rant...) -
EM did kind of miss the point with Deus Ex HR, IMO, allowing the player to influence the little things (altered conversations here and there) but making the plot, cut-scenes, bosses etc all fixed, action-adventure style. That was a step backwards for the franchise, for me. Choice boiled down to, 'do you want to use the sewer, vents or front door to enter this building?'.
Having said that, Thief is simpler in that respect - you don't need all the branching, emergent stuff - so I think it'll be a more faithful entry to the franchise. -
This should be getting revealed soon, they have been working on it for a while. I'd say VGA'S in December we will get a reveal. -

Registered 20 years agoWell, there's always hope =)
They made me very suspicious early on by calling it THI4F or some such bollocks and the constant zone-loading in Thief 3 was a pain in the arse that existed purely to accommodate the bollocks memory in consoles (and the GIANT pre-hdtv GUI), but if they can make 1st person an option and bring Stephen Russell back, they might pull it off.
I don't mind good changes - they improved lockpicking no end in T3 and the grippy gloves could have been awesome if you'd been allowed to use them on more walls. It's the shit changes that worry me =) -

Registered 18 years agoI vaguely remember something about that ages ago but it turned out to be a misquote or a misunderstanding or something, I can't remember the details. I wouldn't worry, it'll be the same setting.
Now that pesky Deus Ex practice project is out of the way they can finally start talking about the really important project they're working on. Don't fuck it up Eidos!

Hopefully this will now be an open world 3rd person cover shooter with faster stealth elements and lots of side missions. In a jungle. With zombies. -
