If you come into thread X without being caught up on show X then you deserve everything you get. Only thing you need to spoiler out imo are things from other shows that people wouldn't reasonably expect to stumble across by coming into this thread.
Also, need a spoiler thread because this is going to get tiresome.

I thought they were going to go full retard with JT not being his father, but Hellboy instead (so he was starting to get the same sort of arthritis). Really not sure what the hell they actually intended.

Haha, very aptly put.
The finales of Breaking Bad and The Sopranos were like saying an emotional farewell to a dying friend or family member.
Watching this was like wringing the neck of a stray cat that has been hit by a car, just going through the motions and putting it out of it's misery.
A shame really because I quite liked the premise and a lot of the characters and the first couple of seasons were excellent, even if they did come with an extra portion of cheese.
I enjoyed the show but it's no where near the calibre of things like the Wire, Spranos, Breaking Bad etc.
The show bordered on parody at points, with the religious themes about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the dick.
Jax has to be one of the least likeable protagonists of any show I've ever watched. Walter White, Tony Soprano were absolute bastards, but I still found myself rooting for them. Jax was a callous serial killer.
Also, that CGI - fucking hell. Did they use the Birdemic special effects team? -

I'm getting to the end of the wire s3 now. WITHOUT SPOILING ANYTHING, does some amazing transformation take place between now and the end? Because I'm not really sure I get it. I mean it's good and all, but it's not up there with Breaking Bad (imo). -

Registered 15 years agoSorry, no.
The best seasons of Wire are the first two (although Marlo in the later seasons is a bad ass villain). The reason I like it so much is that it focuses on the bad guys as much as the good guys, in some cases the bad guys are actually likable. It gives us a glimpse of a life that, although we are aware of, we are highly unlikely to ever be a part of and it has a high level of authenticity in regards to characters, language and settings.
I guess it is not for everyone.
I also think it is unfair to compare it to BrBa as they are very different kinds of TV shows, it's like comparing Eastenders to the Krypton Factor

Registered 9 years agoI love that it focuses almost as much on the bureaucracy of policing (and crime) as much as actual action. It's absolutely dripping with realism (greatly helped by being filmed in Baltimore), and one of the rawest depictions of American society that I've seen on screen.
It's very different to Breaking Bad, although they do sort of tackle similar drug-related subjects. -

Registered 15 years agoI enjoyed the Shield more than The Wire. Mostly because I didn't feel like The Shield was trying to teach me anything.
Both excellent though, but yeah, I didn't quite get the critical masturbation The Wire got. -

Registered 11 years agoI'm sure people have already rabbited on about this, but I found the end of SOA pretty poor to be honest.
I almost feel as though the ending would have been better had Jax simply rode off into the sunset.
It just seemed like a really boring way to go. -

No one cared that he died or anything, maybe he's still on the floor in that house?

Registered 12 years agoI think a lot of the pleasure of watching these shows comes from the twists and 'OMG' plot devlopments, all of which promises an incredible mind-blowing conclusion to the viewer. In reality though, to the writers the hook (as in keeping the audience hooked) is more important than the resolution where there is nothing left to be gained as the show has ended. So they just write themselves into a hole with all these elaborate twists and turns, and then get themselves out just by killing everybody and trying to come across as tragic and poignant. -

Registered 11 years ago@Psychotext - I may have missed that scene, however I was abit unhappy with the way some of the other characters were just forgotten about.
When Jax's best mate died, (for some reason I can't think of his name, but he got whacked with a pole in prison), they made a big deal out of it. In this season, they didn't seem to give 2 sh*ts about Bobby, Unser or Juice. (I can probably understand why they didn't regarding Juice) however it would have been nice to atleast have seen Chibs show some emotion regarding his death. Maybe that's just me, I dunno.
Opie! That's his name!

Registered 12 years agoCracked through the final series in the last week or so. Was full of twists and turns. Don't really know what to make of the finale, kind of meh when it'd be so spectacularly good in the previous 6 series. The green screen of Jax ploughing into the truck wasn't the best

Last season on Netflix now. I've really felt taken out of the moment in certain scenes because it's so painfully obvious that something needs to happen so the writers engineered something in a way that betrays how we view established characters or done so clumsily. For example
- Unser finds Juice's jacket in the closet. Bad enough that Juice just lays it there but even worse is that later Unser just barges into the house, knowing full well that it could be Juice and he could be captured or worse. The man's a cop, a good one, that just felt so stupid
- Door left wide open and Gemma apologising to thin air about killing Tara, just left for Abel to hear
- "Guys, come on you're getting the floor messy with dirt" - Cue everyone walking outside leaving another door wide open for Abel to walk out and see Bobby's mutilated corpse.
Only a few episodes to go, just saw the bombshell dropped on Jax from Abel so hope it all wraps up. The scene with Tig and Venus was good (Walton Goggins is amazing in anything apparently). I like the show, it's trashy entertainment, but this does feel like a season too much and I can't take many more opening and closing montages of calm music set to characters doing mundane crap and ending in brutal violence. Fine once or twice, but not over 7 seasons.
