Anyway as I said, I can see on a more up to date scale, you or others may see it as average, and it is. It isn't ground breaking, but I don't think every game should have to be, as long as it is good to play, and I know for sure I enjoy it. |

I expect they were caught between really doing something new, and just offering a metroid prime game with wii controls.
You can guarantee that if they'd tried a new direction people would be moaning about how they just wanted a metroid prime game with Wii controls. This kind of thing is typical for Nintendo, damned if they do, damned if they don't. -

Well that comment was in jest.
But really though, MP3 is nothing special, there are many others games that are worth playing ahead of it.
I do agree, in fact the metroid series on a whole isn't my fave series, but I do enjoy it, in fact a lot more so than I ever used to and I think MP3 helped that. I liked Prime 1 but it did give me a headache at times. Mp3 being a bit more "linear" kind of made me stick with it and then go back to the others (even though I'd finished one previously).
I have a friend who wants to try the series, and as much as I think 1 is better, number 3 would be better for him to start. Personally my fave so far is Echoes, but it sure is hard work! -

Registered it as quick as was physically possible, but I must've been too late. I couldn't see a lot of people register it on the site who had both the Trilogy and another game, early on release day. Apparently there must've been though. I would say I'm not buying Metroid on VC as a point of protest, but that'd be silly - I just want Zero Mission instead. -

Registered 12 years agoI've had a quick go, lol. I wouldn't have paid for the game but since I have it for 0 Wii points, I may as well. Good job the VC suspends play...no worry about looking for save points! -
The original Metroid is awesome. I dare you to try and complete it without using an online map or guide. -

Registered 16 years agoThree of the best video games ever made. Bought this the day it came out and looking forward to revisiting some of my favourite game environments ever. And hearing some ace music when I get there.
Uber-awesomeness for thirty quid. -
So that's MP1 out of the way. The artifact hunt felt like filler and the end boss was ridiculously easy, but it kept me entertained for 10 or so hours. Only 55% completion though, but I'm not a completist so doubt I'll go back to it any time soon. It also seems that credits for all the unlocks in the extras can be obtained with a single playthrough anyway.
Shall have a break then plough on with Echoes. -

Registered 19 years agoSo is this one of the Wii's big games in run up to Christmas?
3 old games with new controls. Let me guess what's next, that remake of a DS Mario game with 4 PLAYERS!! And, erm, er... more Wii Fit?

Actually I'm not even trolling, I honestly just can't believe how awful the Wii is. Save for Other M, not a single Wii game I'm in the slightest bit interested in. -

I can only agree unfortunately. Dire isnt the word. If I actually had time to play any games anymore I'd be well pissed off with the white box. -

Registered 19 years agoAnd even Other M isn't a definite success - I wasn't overly impressed by Ninja Gaiden 2 as a whole.
Fair play to Nintendo for taking the risky route in bringing them on board to do a title for one of the most loved franchises though. -

Is it just me, or do the early games actually look worse than they did back on the gamecube? I'm pretty sure I remember fancy splash effects.
Never liked the first one tbh, not sure why I bothered picking this up. Can't stand the jump mechanic, the camera feels like it's a few feet infront of the characters feet. Arg!

Loved the 2D metroid games (apart from when they had time-limit sections). Going to try MP2 tomorrow, hopefully that'll address my niggles with the first game. -

Registered 12 years agoThe games don't actually look worse...the game has had new textures...to be honest I didn't even notice the difference. The splashy effect actually is good to be removed...it looked like jelly and not really that realistic. As for the effects missing from the canon..that is because they were 2D sprites and with the full motion of the gun now...they'd not look proper. -

Thinking back, wasn't the European version of the original Prime more difficult than its American counterpart anyway?

Registered 14 years agoI just got my download ticket for NES Metroid. That makes me one of only 5000 people to register the game with Nintendo. Edit: looks like you must also have registered a previous metroid game too.
I didn't expect to get it in all honesty, especially as I didn't pre-order the game or get it on the day of release. Looking at the charts it's not selling that well, which is a shame, as it's an amazing game.
I'm replaying Prime now, and with the difficulty changes and new controls it's a lot easier to play and much more fluid in the way it moves. I never managed to finish the first two games due to the controls and difficult bosses, but I reckon I'll be able to do it this time. -
I didn't expect it to sell amazingly well. Most people I know have at least 2 of the 3 games and so the trilogy just doesn't seem worth it. You might as well just go buy the missing game 2nd hand or something.
