Registered 15 years ago@Pear - Can't say i've played Wii fit but I would guess so from what I've played of this so far. Feels like a good workout, not that i'm an expert at these things.
@ Mcmonkey - It does indeed. In fact it displays it throughout the entire game (menu's etc) once you have it on. -

Registered 14 years agoJust got this, only did a light workout due to the time but so far much much better than the Wii version (not having to hold anything is great for a start!). Custom soundtracks are also highly recommended over the bland defaults.
I have started a group, not exactly sure what it'll do but feel free to join (PS3 version) and work out together...or something like that?
group name: Eurogamer
password: eurogamer
Not sure if you need to have me in your friends list or not, if so feel free to add me
PSN: danathjo
As an extra incentive you'll also get a trophy for joining.gif)
Will probably bump this for the 9-5 masses later as no one is crazy enough to still be up at this hour working out, unless any Aussies are up for it too! -

Registered 14 years agoGod dammit, just got this for £64.95 and it's already been slashed to £49.95.
Well worth getting if you're on the fence, unlike Wii Fit this gives you a really good workout.

Registered 14 years agoSorry, 20 days late clockity! But i think it's more for motivation sakes.
Seeing what everyone else has done, working out as a team?
I think there is more involved on the EA SA website, ready to start my intermediate 3 week challenge this week after all the boozing and lazyness of Xmas. -

Is the original (EA Sports Active, not Active 2) still available anywhere on Wii?
The wife wants an excercise game as we can't afford the gym, but I can only find Active 2 in stock anywhere, not the original Active. And the original appears to be slightly better (as there appears to be problems with the HRM on Wii not being very effective at all). -
I'll have a look to see if I've still got my copy later if you aren't too fussed about it being in the original box.
Quite a good chance I haven't so don't get too excited
-
I've just grabbed this for £20 (and it can be had for £13 I found later) on PS3.
JESUS, I have done 2 20 min sessions and feel a bit ruined! -
Heh
It's a really solid workout isn't it?
Got it last year on PS3 as the wii version was great previously. It got a lot of use over the winter and will probably get similar this winter too. -

Registered 14 years agoBack into this now, with the wife trying to shift the baby weight I thought i'd join in too, anyone with the PS3 feel free to join the group mentioned above.
Had Fletche join up but it seems that he gave it up after one session
Also, kind of feel sick seeing how much I paid for this with it available for under a tenner now, oh well...will just have to make sure I get my money's worth now! -
I've just joined the group, hope you don't mind
I'm starting on easy again as a/ just after I got this last year I got pretty seriously ill and am only just recovering b/ I'm also doing the C25K running schedule just now so I just want an "easy" workout on my days off from that.
Just did day one of the 9 week schedule and bloody hell, even on easy I'd forgotten how good a workout it was. I was slick with sweat at the end ( ew, I know ). The good news is that partially because of the running and partially through the illness I'm now about 3 - 4 stone lighter than I was last time and can do things like the high knee stuff which felt like it was going to snap my achilles tendons last time.
/chuffed I dug it out of the cupboard. -
Original wii version worth 18 quid on Amazon? What about the 'more' add on, worth picking up? Dont have a wii fit board and seems it isn't needed for these.
Any tales of uber weight loss and super fitness from anyone using these?

of course not Bravearse, the more the merrier!
I've restarted the 3 week course again, mainly because I was so close to finishing it in December (yes the last time I used it) but as I was away for the last one or two workouts I didn't get my trophy for it
so doing it again before starting the 9 week.
Also need to make up a good workout playlist instead of using the default one. A few minutes of Outkast's B.O.B and i'm sweating buckets!
@P_F i'd go for the second one as i'm sure it's got all the same exercises of the first still, they just added more to it. -
@Pinky_Floyd Yeah, big time. My mrs used it through the winter and lost so much weight and gained so much fitness, that she then started running when the weather got better. She now runs 14 miles every Sunday ( in 2 hours ) and gets out for 45 minutes 2 or 3 times during the rest of the week. SA2 played a huge part in getting her to the level where she could do that. She's nearly half the weight she was before she started. Proper slim now. And, just to add, when she does SA2 - it still makes her sweat. It can be a really hard workout if you want it to be. Especially if you use free weights.
See my earlier posts from last year on this thread about my own experience. TLDR: I was exceptionally fit earlier in my life and was totally surprised by how explosive and tough the workouts can be. That said, you get out what you put in to this kind of thing, it could be easy to cheat the system, but why would you?
@danathjo - excellent
I find the built in playlist gets annoying fast so I've got a sizable workout playlist on Spotify now, I just crank it up and away I go
-
Christ my legs hurt this morning. I may change to an upper body custom playlist for my easy days until I have the C25K out of the way. I'm getting all the stamina and leg work I need from that right now. -
In the end i plumped for sports active 2 on the ps3 as it was only 12 quid from the hut. I hear the resistance band is poor, anywhere online i can get a cheap, but better replacement? -
Good choice and a hell of a good price, sadly, the bands I linked to a couple ofyears back are no longer available, so I would probably go for the reebok ones in amazon. If you can go a step further though then I'd recommend a set of light dumbbells, it really works well with them. -
Just did my custom upper body workout. Made the rookie mistake of putting my sensors on upside down, near ended myself trying to repeat my tricep extensions over and over while figuring out what was wrong. Can barely raise my arms now
I've got my 6 year old doing it too. Nothing involving resistance though, just some fun stuff like boxing and mountainoarding. I made a little 8 minute workout for her which she does twice and then add in a little cool down workout at the end. She loves it. -
Well bravearse, have just finished workout 1 on medium for the 9 week challenge. I am knackered lol. Did my weight first, 190 pounds. Found mountain biking to be a killer and not fussed on the basketball, surprisingly tiring!
Clock says 27 mins and 180 calories. Wife had a right laugh at me and my 4 month old just looked a bit frightened
-
Oh, found a set of 3kg dumbbells so using them instead of the resistence band. -
Excellent - Don't worry about the 4 month old, kids always look surprised at that age
-
When i woke up this morn i felt OK but as the day wore on the muscles got sore :/
Just did workout 2 and am wrecked. Tomorrow is a rest day thank god. How many workouts till it starts to get a bit easier, this is knackering me, which is probably the point I suppose
-
IIRC it'll be a couple of weeks before the rest day aches start to get a bit easier. But as the workouts get harder there's no guarantee it'll go away entirely. I look upon them as a kind of medal of honour.
I'm having an easy SA week as the c25k schedule is really stepping up as I close in on the end. Yesterday's run destroyed me. -

I didnt realise the workouts got harder until tonight. Workout 4 almost beat me. I had to cheat on some of the reverse lunges. 3 or 4 sets of those fire steps along with 3 or 4 mountain climbing sets. Holy cow, sweat was flying off me. Thank god tomorrow is another rest day. That female trainer is one evil bitch.
