BANGARANG! wrote:Doesn't sound 'likely' to me. I don't see how it's really in their interests to deny the possibility whether it's in development or not. To me, it sounds like they're just dilly-dallying around with the idea. Dread is probably just an ideas forum for possible future Metroid games. The Corruption reference is an unconfirmed rumour and could easily be a coincidence. Nothing to go on whatsoever really. |

Nah, Jin wasn't even interested in Prime. Apparently the Japanese just don't 'get' the gameplay (sorry, not an attempt at derogation, I just kind of thought this was the case).
Echoes had its ups and downs, mind. Corruption could definitely be called stale.
Excuse me, but I've played the Prime games (well 1 and 3) and the DS one, as well as the GBA games and the virtual console releases. I haven't liked any of them very much, Japanese, 2D or 3D, the one I liked the best was Fusion.
You're correct in that I got into the Prime ones even less than the 2D ones, but even so, I really liked how easy they were to play over other first person shooters. FPS control is not easy for me.
However, if you asked me which one I liked the least, it would be the Japanese-developed Super Metroid and I know that's like saying you hate all that is good and wonderful in the world because it has such a high reputation. Except I'm not saying any of these are bad games. They all seem to be the highest quality. It's just that no matter how many times I play Super Metroid, I don't feel it, even though it's obviously a quality game.
I just think this one looks nicer because it looks like a spazzy, shooty arcade game from the 90s. -

Creator of the first three Metroid games, Kid Icarus, the GBA games, the Wario Land series, Made in Wario series, Rhythm Heaven series, the Gameboy Pocket Camera, and a couple of other Japan-only games that are dearly loved cult classics (Famicom Detective Club, I Will Ring the Bell for the Frog, Card Hero). -

I will ring the bell for the frog? The mind boggles, what exactly is this about? -

No wonder I don't know him. Except for Rhythm Tengoku and Kid Icarus I don't have anything of the rest. Credits in Rhythm Tengoku were probably in Japanese (and I wasn't learning that back then) and when I finished Kid Icarus I was young enough to be proud of being able to read more than a few words. -

He directed all the 2D Metroid games aside from Metroid II Return of Samus, is supervising the production of Metroid Prime Trilogy and is obviously now working on Metroid: Other M.
Other than Metroid he worked on a bunch of older Nintendo games, notably Super Smash Bros Melee and Kid Icarus. -

The game's engine was the basis for Link's Awakening, if I remember rightly, and Richard in the Villa is a character reference to the frog game. I might have it confused with another title though.

Registered 17 years agoIt occurred to me today that the announcement of a cinematic, narrative-driven Metroid game with voice-acted Samus is virtually a guaranteed go-ahead for a movie release... assuming, as rumoured, the rights are already out there.
Posting this from LA btw. Awesome

Must be LA's influence. I actually like it that the big (story driven) Nintendo franchises like Zelda and Metroid don't have voice acting for the important characters. It's a small (?) detail that I hope will still be present in the future titles. -

Registered 17 years agoYes, I'm undecided on voice acting. They can go ahead and do it, I think, so long as it doesn't mean all future titles have voice-acted Samus. At any rate, I think Samus could benefit from it a lot more than Link. At least, there's a lot more reason to do it for Samus.
But then when we go back to 'proper' Metroid games, isolation, loneliness and silence, please... -

A bit of a bump but has anyone heard anything of this? Damn Nintendo and their poor ability to self-publicise their own games. -

Release Summer 2010 in Japan. That's a bit earlier than expected.

The website's lovely, but there's nothing there to identify it as Metroid. This game looks like one of the most radical series departures ever.
