Why should it be any more than any other PS1 game?

Because FF games always are? edit: although I respect that that's not the case so much over here. So I'll change that for "because it's FFVII". Because it came on three discs? There's two plausible reasons.

In fairness, FF7 is the only game on the Japanese Game Archives which is more than 600 yen.

So is it going to be compatible with the PSP, like some of the other Playstation classics on the store?

This would excite me more if I could control how 'zoomed in' it will appear on the PSP screen. I think the options are totally squished, totally zoomed and missing half the screen; or 4:3 with huge black borders on the sides.

The PAL version might even be preferable as the existing black borders might create a comprimise with the 'totally zoomed in' option. I want an option that's like 'Smart' on my widescreen Sony telly.

I've forgotten what the zoom functions are like. I think its normal, double and full (which stretches it).

Just tried to use Media Go to buy, but PSN Store is requiring a US address for my card. Buggers!

    $9.99 on the US store.

Depending on UK price, I might look into ebay card.

By reference, FFVII from Japan would cost £9.58 and from the US, it would cost £6.12 (on today's rates)

As we tend to get shafted a lot on price, £9.99 seems feasible but it could be just that little bit higher.

Hmm... so it was a bit cheaper on the US store? I couldn't find the price when I was posting earlier.

I very much hope this is around the £6 mark. Then I won't feel so bad about buying it.

This is awesome news. Cheers, HiddenAway.

The full press release is here: http://www.mcvuk.com/press-releases/48036/FINAL-FANTASY-VII and it is indeed PSP compatible. No mention of price though.

I reckon £7.99 - 9.99. It's 1500 yen in Japan as opposed to 600 yen for stuff like Xenogears etc, so 2.5 times the cost of a normal PSone classic... remember SF Alpha was £4.79...

  • Deleted user 4 June 2009 02:16:14
The press release says "FINAL FANTASY VII is available in all PAL countries where the PlayStation®Store is available."

Ordered off PSN US using Entropay (for NTSC speeds). Slight borderage around the play area but not really that distracting at all. Looks very good upscaled!

No 'stretch' option on the PS3 but I do remember that existing on the PSP from my CFW version.

This effectively means I can ditch CFW if I want. I only really wanted it for FF7 etc... not to be a leet haxzor. (although using the GTA:LCS exploit back in the day gave me +5 Armour Of Geek Satisfaction)
