Lindelhof says: "It's been two years [since the show ended] and we told the story we wanted to tell. I do feel like the world has not seen the end of Lost but I'm not going to have any involvement." He added that any new production team that wanted to revive or continue Lost would have his blessing. "It would be hypocritical of me to say I'm going to [reboot] Star Trek but I don't want anyone to touch Lost." |

Registered 20 years agoHmm, whilst I'm not going to say that they didn't make some shit up, I honestly think they did have a plan for how it would end up, even if it was just that we'd end on the same close-up of Jack's eye.
The fact is that for a show that really did go "off the reservation" so often it was astoundingly coherent and brilliantly put together. I can't think of many shows that have had me tuning in religiously for so long and certainly nothing that had me theorising to such an extent.
I'll probably leave it until my kids are old enough to watch it and then see how it stands up... that'll be another decade at least so it should be interesting to see how it stacks up.

I don't think the lack of answers is a problem with Lost. We got the answer that solves all the questions: magic.
The problem is that it's a shit answer. -

Registered 18 years agoHuge and probably unnecessary bump.
So, my mum is currently watching this. From the very beginning, season 1. She's probably about 15-18 episodes through the show. My dad watches from afar while reading his books.
Shannon says one line, something like: "We all get another chance at life on this island" to Sayid.
Now my dad hates most things on telly. I thought he'd detest this as sci-fi waffle but he actually seems to be getting into it while its on.
In response to Shannon's line he says: "Oooooo, it could be some kind of purgatory they're in before they go to the afterlife."

Now, firstly, he's a clever boy. And secondly, I never believed the writers planned the conclusion of the show so early on. I thought it wasn't until the 3rd or so season when they knew it would go the distance that they began to think of the entire timeline.
Is this the case? Has it been documented when the writers knew where they were taking things? -

Registered 9 years ago@Tomo As far as I know, all events on the island took place, and the writers debunked the 'the island is purgatory' theory fairly early.
I always took it that the Season 6 flash-sideways were a kind of afterlife, but only long after everyone is dead, and post-island
I'm not sure when the end was decided but I think it was quite late in the show's life!

Registered 16 years agoIts kind of two fingers at the fans.
They say 'the island must be purgatory', the writers say 'it isnt', the fans say it must be, the writers say it isnt and then at the very end, they introduce a purgatory that isnt on the island just to be wilfully annoying. -

Registered 20 years agoYou can take it like that because that's exactly what did happen - it was pretty explicitly stated that the flash sideways was the afterlife in which they were all meeting up in after they had died. All the events on the island happened and those that escaped lived their lives afterwards then met the rest who had died when they got to the afterlife eventually. No real need to spoiler this now surely? It's been two and a half years! -
Ahhhh i loved it not for the plot as such, but the wonderful characters. Like BSG, it was the characters not the plot I was in love with.
