Cheers, Iíll check those out. Watched a run through of Mod1 earlier which was handy. Got my theory booked for Wednesday so I need to refresh my Highway Code a touch, done one for my driving license albeit 15 years ago

Theory is straightforward. Hazard perception is what you need to focus on, especially if you've been driving for a while. Best of luck!

Yeah had a few run throughs on practice websites, just a matter of remembering the knack for whatís essentially a pointless test

Cheers, yeah it was pretty offputting for being well inside the uncanny valley. Spent more time looking at odd walking, whether the wheels on the motorbike was turning and wondering why the high viz jacket wasnít affected by wind. Still, 63/75 wasnít a bad score

I had to go get my rear tire replaced on Saturday but I also had my daughter (9) to look after. So I figured it was time to get her some gear and take her with me on the bike.

She's fully kitted out with a new helmet and jacket and I got her some second hand trousers and gloves.

She really enjoyed riding pillion, so I dropped her off at her school friend's birthday party with the bike in the afternoon and took her to school this morning by bike.

Thoroughly enjoyable experience, being able to take her along and seeing her all enthused.

I remember riding pillion with my dad around that age, I was fucking terrified. I had my arms wrapped so tight around him in fear of flying off the back I dunno how he could breath properly

I'm quite grateful for the chap at the motorbike store who suggested I get one of these:

    https://www.rad.eu/nl/c/p/2724-held-contigo-zwart.htm

It's a big belt you put on, which has 2 sets of handles on them for a smaller passenger to hold onto. It works great!

Edit: There's also 0 risk of flying off the back when you're on a tourer with a massive top box that doubles as back for the passenger. That might be part of the reason she's quite relaxed sitting behind me.

Now I just need to buy another BT-S2 unit to install in her helmet so we can communicate. For the moment, I just go by the assumption all is well. She's instructed to thump me on the shoulder repeatedly if she needs me to pull over.

Whenever we hit a red light, I get a chance to make sure she's still happy back there but just chatting whilst driving will be a nice step up.

Itís amazing the communication options available, been looking at all those new mesh devices lately.

Just picked out some nice looking Alpinestars gloves to with the helmet, so many bits of kit to choose from

What you reckon is the better first bike for a mid 30s newly minted biker; a sensible, A2 friendly R3 despite not being restricted, or a Street Triple

    Street triple.

Any sports bike I would not really count as newbie friendly. The acceleration curve on the street triple is fantastic and easy.

Also I would recommend the street triple to anyone really, not just starters.

Cheers, thatís kind of how Iím leaning but I prefer sportier looking things. Iíll have to see how willing dealers are for test rides, the SV650 Iíve done lessons on is too upright for my tastes, Iím used to being laid forward when out on two wheels

Lot's of driving schools here seem to use Honda CBF to start people off on.

That's what I trained on. CB650F. Also had one as my first bike. It makes a great first big bike, powerful and fun without being silly dangerous.

Just bought a lovely black 2017 triumph street twin off eBay. 1600 miles looks like new.

Obviously I went to look at it and test rode one at the local dealer first. Bring on the summer.

I haven't been in here in a while, I bought an Ice Fluo 2019 MT-03 and had some DAMN good times in the Peak District this weekend.

I donít hate that colour scheme. Havenít ridden the 03 but the 07 was on my shortlist for next bike as it was great fun.

I'm definitely the weak link and the slowest thing on it, it's a weapon around town and held it's own well in the Peak District. Motorways weren't exactly comfortable but it's definitely got the guts to make a decent overtake/lane change at 70mph with safety power in the tank.

I needed the 03 over the 07 purely so I can manoeuvre it into my garden where it's safe away from the scrote motorcycle thieves.

Got to be one of these three right?

    https://www.cycleworld.com/kawasaki-z900-vs-triumph-street-triple-r-vs-yamaha-fz-09-comparison-motorcycle-review#page-3

I have the MT-09. I should have given teh triple a lot more thought before I bought it. I've seen the Z900 an it looks the business but I know nothing more about it.

    For teh MT...
    Pros
Best looking one out of the three (IMO)
    The performance is incredible

    Cons
    Tank's too small
Overall the Triple has the best stats.
It constantly wants to kill you with it's lusty power.

Yeah the MT09 looks the best of the lot of me, but Iím just not super into nakeds tbh no matter how hard I try to convince myself. I was really into bikes as a kid and grew up lusting after 500cc GP bikes, Ninjas and 916s. Triples sound amazing though and the new 765 is supposed to be a seriously good engine, but that bike looks too weird for me with that front end. If they bring out a new Daytona though...

Tell a lie, I do quite like the look of the MV Brutale and Iíll always like a Monster because itís a Duc and they always look right to me regardless, even the Diavel
