Got myself lost down the cafe racer rabbit hole this lockdown, spent countless hours watching builds on YouTube. There’s some interesting stuff out there amongst the shite. Watching a few old BMWs on eBay but they’re commanding premium now as they’re in high demand for customisation. 3-4 grand for a mid 80s tourer is all wrong, but what’s worse is you see the utter dog shit most people turn these old bikes into and expect to sell for 15k

Strip the plastics, Paint the frame black, stick an aftermarket and headlight seat on and some shit knobblies, ask for 15 grand. You can buy a brand new V2 Panigale for that

I have an '83 Xj650 maxim that is crying out for the cafe treatment. Need to buy the wife a new bike before I can start on it (or sell it for £3-4k 😜;)

Phoned the bank, and paid the remainder of my MT-09 today.

I 'fully' own it. Quite a feeling :D

/immediately hits the websites to see about trading in for something else.

I still do a weekly ride. Go to the shop the long way to get my weekly bread and milk. If people can go out for a stroll I don't see the issues with going out on my bike, I am head to toe in gear and don't go near anyone else.

Also if I don't ride it the battery dies etc.

Buying the bike was the best thing I've done during this lockdown. Commuting is so much fun at the moment due to the fact the roads have been relatively empty (except just now, busiest it's been for weeks!) and it's been brilliant sunshine most of the time during the day! :D

Took a vfr 800 2018 model for a spin at lunch. Liked it so did the usual insurance check pre purchase.

    Sigh.

6k for the bike. 4 years no claims etc and the cheapest I can find is 1500 a year.

I want to upgrade my hornet but every single bike I look at is so expensive. I only pay 350 a year on my hornet and dont want to pay more than a grand insurance and it seems there is no upgrade that will allow that.

    Yep.

May still go for it anyway. Depression kicking in hard in lockdown, having something nice might help a bit.

Have you got a garage? Or perhaps a family member with one outside London, where you’ll aim to keep the bike for the majority of the year

I do like the look of the vfr though, single swingers are always sexy

I just renewed and paid £800 for my insurance, on a '17 MT-09. Fully comp but I think +£500 excess.

In London. I thought it was expensive but I'm starting to think that owning a motorbike in London is basically eye-wateringly expensive. The world is moving on and leaving me behind.

My Car (an 18 plate Auris hybrid) is £550 by comparison.

Vehicle ownership in London is expensive :(

Fully comp almost not worth it for bikes in London now, you make a claim and your next premium will be £10k. Might as well just go 3rd party when it’s cheaper just to fix it yourself anyway

I ride a lot. Like 3 times a week, 8000 miles a year. It is my stress relief. I need it nearby. I do a European trip once a month in good weather.

So I don't really want to have it away from me. In a garage it is still a grand but I think I may just bite the bullet and hire one.

I am not worried about crashes. I am worried about theft.

Um... why is 3rd party fire and theft more expensive than comprehensive? I am well confused now....

    Maybe different underwriters

Just took my Pani to get the suspension sorted out for me by someone who knows what they’re doing, quite amazing the difference on the ride home. Probably the best 50 quid I’ll ever chuck at it, can’t wait to give it a spanking this week

Still haven't given my RSV4 a proper ride out more than a couple of times thanks to the lockdown but i'm gonna give her a proper go this weekend. Not sure i've made it out of 4th gear yet. If i'm honest I still haven't figured out the dash and switch gear yet.

I've just enjoyed a very pleasant 100 mile run to a shop, and seen two friends (remained totally social distant the whole time). The bike needed a run, a refuel, and some air in the tires, but a long run like that was for the battery!

It was a perfect day to do it, and it finished up with a rainbow on the way home. I gave my MT-09's tank a pat when I saw it.

    Doesn't get better than that!

    Anyone get out today?

Yeah I did, my daughter helped me give the bike a wash and I got out for about 50 miles round Herts after to “dry it off”. Cracking day to stretch its legs
