They ride Harleys so I don’t think comfort is an issue

I bought a nice 2017 Honda CB125F about six months ago to learn to ride on. Really can't fault it. Did a lot of umming and ahring on whether to get something fancy but really glad I went with something that was just solid, reliable and easy to ride. They'll be plenty of time for expensive classics etc when I've got my big boys licence.
Same as the one I've just linked to?
Think the link has died now so can't see it, but will assume 'yes'. There's loads of them about.
I ended up buying it. Very happy with it, seems like a perfect bike to get me going and learn on.

Just had the valve clearances done on my RSV4 and was so glad it wasn't as expensive as some forums on the internet hyped it up to be. I was fully ready to put down about 800 quid but it was closer to 500, which is still a lot of cash but I'm happy that service doesn't come around for a long, long time.

@elstoof How are the servicing costs? I'd be very surprised if I have the RSV4 for another 12,500 miles to see another service like this.

At the main dealers it’s about 300 for the yearly maintenance, desmo valve check is about a grand every 15000 miles, more if they have to dick about with them

Woof, that valve check is pretty gnarly. I didn't realise it was that severe. I hope you've got a decent dealer. I've got a choice of two locally and luckily the guy closest to me is much more reasonable than the prick/guy at the biggest dealer in town.

@elstoof What Ducati have you got? I've had some entertaining bills in the past…

I can't remember if I posted this (or if it's allowed), but I'm enjoying my Hypermotard 950 – I've started a sort of vlog series on it. It's given me my love of biking back…

There’s a couple of main dealers near-ish, I go to Aylesbury On Yer Bike and they’ve been decent enough. Getting at the valves on the upright cylinder is an everything-off affair. It’s cheaper at an indie and there’s a couple of good ones, but I’m eyeing up a V4 next year so attempting to build up a bit of rapport with the main stealers

    Timmywoo I’ve got an 899

@elstoof Ah nice! I've had some fun rides on an 899. I use Pro Twins down in Godstone which is probably a bit of a trek for you.

I put a video up on what my 1198 cost me to run it for two years… £4,000. Admittedly it sort of fell over a bit, but it was still an absolute moneypit… I'm quite glad to be on something a bit more modern and less prone to surprise wheelies.

Yeah the old long bore twins were a bit more thirsty for your money, Audi got them to tidy things up a lot. Nothing quite like a Ducati imo

Why did you buy a new bike without a test drive?

@Salaman Because there were no SP versions on demo fleets in the UK! I rode a normal one very briefly (15 mins), but it's quite different in terms of height!

@SnackPlissken Hello! I would, but I've forgotten how to use my hands to write. And I'm approximately the 7th most interesting person at DT, and we're not a big company.

    Question time guys.

Last few weeks my bike has struggled to start. Bike turns over, chugs, chugs and then eventually starts. Not every time but occasionally. So I went out and bought a new battery and installed... and same problem.

Only now sometimes it doesn't even turnover, it just buzzes. But off and on and trying a few times it always works.

I can't get it looked at until next Friday, but I NEED it Monday for commute and important meetings. Anyone know what could cause this so I can have a check myself until dealer looks at it?

Honda hornet 600 2012 for reference.

Could be spark plug on the way out, or the starter motor. Hopefully just a spark plug

Whoop. New bike today. Brand new red vfr800, decided to upgrade as commuting up m1 at the moment and winter is coming. A better winter bike that my hornet.

So excited. Not so excited by the insurance though.... jumped from £200 to over a grand.

Basically inside m25 with 4 year no claims there are two tiers.

Naked 600 or under = 300 - 600 insurance depending on bike. Some 1000 nakeds are doable.

Anything faired 600, or anything larger is pretty much uninsurable even with a garage. Vfr was difficult, but as only 800 and not supersport managed to get a liveable if expensive insurance.

    Bike is worth it... https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-details/202010014444057?advertising-location=at_bikes&is-quick-search=TRUE&postcode=W45HJ&model=VFR800F&page=1&radius=20&make=HONDA&include-delivery-option=on&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly

Crazy, when I went from Fazer 600 to Vfr800 my insurance only went up from £130 to £180 ish. Which was offset by reduction in road tax as the Fazer was older. Guess a London insurance tax?

Saying that Fazer insurer wanted to charge £450 to upgrade when I bought the VFR, so left them and setup a fresh policy as above.

Lovley machines vfrs, so reliable and plenty of fun. Not to mention the perfect mix of touring and sporty, not all sports tourers pull it off.

Oh the irony. Trading in my old bike for a new one. Old one running fine, but starting to need some work and I would rather get a new one for reliability.

Ride to dealers. Agree price of new bike, agree trade in value of old. Shake hands, put down deposit.

....and my bike breaks down leaving the showroom so the dealer has to push start me.

So now I need to repair old bike in order to get rid of it Wednesday.... 😳

On other notes, my old bike was pictured in ride magazine this month!

Looks like electrical, so probably regulator rectifier. So 400 odd. Fuck my life.
