Registered 13 years agoFuck regulator rectifiers. Think I must have gone through 3 or 4 on my Gixxer.
(My fault probably for buying cheapo regulators off eBay for 30 quid)

I hope so. I normally do 2k a year touring Europe and this should be better than my hornet for that. Can't wait to travel with panniers etc and not need large backpack.

Registered 3 years agoSo one of my friends has a Zero. My leathers still fit despite the Rona (and I haven't had a bike in years) and I took it out for a careful blat.
Fuck. Me.
I might need one. What puts me off is the lack of noise and the danger that causes. Oh, and the price.
But I'm due a mid life crisis -

Registered 12 years agoI will honestly say a mid life crisis is great. Especially in lock down coronavirus world.
Getting out on the bike is freedom. Also if anyone doesn't approve of the biker lifestyle you can pretend you are wearing leathers as you are in a gay sex fetish club. Winning no matter what. -

Registered 3 years agoThis one will do 80 miles on a charge, real world. I don't think I'd ride that far without taking a break -

Registered 15 years agoExcept your break is a mandated 3 hours every 80 miles, unless you only ever want to ride 40 miles away and come home again. They’d be great for commuting but just too limiting for pleasure riding until the tech improves -

I don't disagree on any of that other than the time required. I don't know how bad the charging infrastructure is over there but level 2 (which is still slow af) does 0-95% in under an hour on the Zero.

I also wouldn't use it for touring but that's not what they're for, really.
Like electric cars, the problem isn't range anxiety, it's charge time anxiety -

Registered 15 years agoInfrastructure here is exactly what you would expect it to be. I’m imagining a perfectly evenly spaced line of Supercharging stations all the way from BC to Manitoba for you

Registered 3 years agoI really want a Diavel, but I'm not that confident a rider (long break). Should I get an 821 Monster instead? As I understand it, one could leave it in 'pussy' mode as they grew some balls -

Registered 15 years ago821 has been replaced with just “Monster”. I test rode one last year, it was nice, not particularly exciting. Good torque, I’d expect it’ll get boring after a short while and you’ll want to chop it in. I’d take the Diavel any day, much more of an event to ride one, I’m assuming this won’t be a daily rider? Diavel will have the same sort of rider modes to leave it in rain mode or whatever, but tbh that won’t last long. Modern Ducatis are just so easy to ride now -

Registered 15 years agoThe old one isn’t great looking either, both are just pretty vanilla bikes that’ll get the day to day tasks done with a tiny bit more flair than the rest -

Registered 15 years agoWhat was that, Monster S4? In a lot of ways the Diavel has moved into the space that the Monster used to sit, while the Monster has dropped down to the sort of easy to live with, jack of all trades bike with a luxury label. You’re a big unit right? You’ll know when you throw a leg over if the 821 is big enough. You might feel like you’re perched on top of it. The Diavel would eventually cost a bit as a daily, servicing won’t be cheap on either but you’ll cane through rear tyres if you ride it “properly” -

Registered 3 years agoRight. I'm relatively handy with spanners so it'd 'just' be the expensive services which will be needed. And I am a big unit so would probably want to switch out the rear shock of a Diavel (heard they are quite slack).
I never felt perched on the S4, has the ergo changed a lot? Will need to wait until all of *this* is over and then go play on both.
It's been so long since I've done regular riding I probably ought to try deadlifting them. I'm deffo gonna drop whatever bike it is I buy. Second hand is probably the route to go -
821 is a smaller bike than the S4 vintage, it’s about the same as a Street Triple
