Just want to see if anyone else here has a Sonos system installed in their house? I currently have four zones installed and I am thinking of adding a couple more, one of which being the patio with a set of Bose 251's. Napster and Last.fm are my most used services. Any other EG users? If so please compare set ups! |

My house is so small I just turn Winamp on and I can hear it fine no matter what I'm doing. No need for such fancy pants fanciness.
But then I do live in a two-up two-down mid-terrace house. -

Registered 19 years agoMy wife had a blazing PMT related (I'm tracking her mental periods with my iPhone calender, I just whip it out and put an X on the day every time she erupts) strop at me this morning as I was wiring up my ancient surround sound system in the new family media room (or childrens' play room as she calls it), because it was ugly and big, wires everywhere etc.
She then sent me a link to this stuff and suggests we get one - I've been looking for something to do just this, it's perfect!
Better buy it quick before her hormones flip again..... -

Was obviously for the CR200 controller, which I bought one of so it kinda negates the iTouch/iPad use... -

Nah, we wussed outGot an Orbit Soundbar instead. When we added up everything we needed, for all the time we actually listen to music in the house, it was a bit extravagant.
Maybe for my 40th next year

Registered 14 years agoGood move. Basically each zoneplayer has a number of ethernet ports at the back of the device that you can plug network devices into. I have a 360, PS3 plugged into mine. The zonebridge is plugged directly into the router, which distributes the network signal to the zoneplayers throughout your house.

Registered 14 years agoYou'll struggle with the wireless bandwidth to stream 720p to be honest, remember you share the bandwidth if you're playing music through it as well. For me, SD streaming was fine on the 360, PS3 not so good.
Wiring the zones obviously resolves this HD issue. -

Very happy with it. The new Live Music (Wolfgang’s Vault) is pretty good as well, I am tempted to sub for that. -

this sonos system looks great but i've read that itunes will not embed album artwork into a file container when you rip cds. i was looking for a system to play my music once it has been ripped in a lossless format to computer.
i suppose i would be better off ripping with windows media player and getting the sonos controller.
one thing i am totally clueless about, however, is the whole business with a nas drive. i don't want to have my computer turned on whenever i want to play music. it all seems a bit complicated.
sonos should really release a product that addresses that side of things. it seems to me they get everything in place to control and play music but storing and preparing the music for a sonos system is neglected.
how does the s5 sound? i'm wary of these one unit type things but all reviews are giving it 5/5 so it must be impressive.
