Heh. This 'use two units as a stereo pair' idea must be making them a fortune. I currently have a Play 5 in the lounge (large room) and a Play 3 in the kitchen (small room). Am now dreaming of a second Play 3 to make a pair of 3s in the lounge, and move the 5 to the kitchen. Better sound in both rooms. They've got me by the balls.

Honestly, the thing just markets itself. I can't be the only Sonos owner with a lifetime plan for how it eventually ends up in every room.

They should release an outdoor one btw.

They really should. Seen the Pure Jongo S3? That can go outside as it runs on batteries. Pretty sure it won't sound as good as the Sonos speakers, but it might push Sonos that way, you never know.

No, I mean an actual permanent installed outdoor speaker. I want one in my flowerbed.

Or even just on a bracket attached to the outer wall of my house. You know, like house alarm or security camera. It's not such a big deal to get power to these things.

We have a pure jongo in the office. Evaluating it for an office move where we will probably order another ten.

we were uhming and ahing about whether to go sonos or pure and, for the money, the jongo is fine.

Really good sound and, as you say, the 10 hour battery life is great. You can pick it up and plonk it anywhere.

Im probably going to get two or three for my house in the next few months as they are actually really cool. The app is a bit shit, though, but I expect it will get better with further revisions.

If the Jongo had come out a few months earlier I'm pretty sure I'd have gone for that as it's far closer to my original budget. Ah well..

Just ordered a Bridge and a Play5. So, Spotify or Napster?

I wish Grooveshark worked with Sonos systems.

Spotify has been flawless for me, even here in China. I hadn't realised how much I just casually cued stuff up until I found myself in a hotel room recently and went to play some music and realised the room had no Sonos. :)

Trial them both - the Napster one-month trial comes kind of baked-in, ie. you won't need to set up an account beforehand. Spotify also give you a 30-day trial. There's also Deezer and Rdio, both of which do 15-day trials I believe, so you can have 3 months of streaming music for free :)

Based on my trials, the Napster interface on Sonos is a bit better, but if you're going to use it on a computer too (say at work) I'd go for Spotify as the desktop app is superb.

Also apparently Spotify streams at higher quality, but you probably won't notice the difference on a single Play 5.

so i bought one of these the other day, connects up to my Galaxy S3 via apt-x bluetooth straight into my surround sound amp + speakers.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Avantree-Roxa-Bluetooth-Receiver-adapter/dp/B00AF7N848

Spotify sounds pretty great, and so far no issues with the reciever. And its cheap.

Just got a Sub last week.

Wow... impressive stuff. That extra base is really amazing and the Sub is just a thing of beauty IMHO.

Got 3 speakers now and a sub. Expensive, but so much fun to be totally digital/wireless.

What have you paired the Sub with? One speaker, a pair, etc.

I'd love a Sub but we live in a terraced maisonette so I think I'd make a lot of enemies. Plus it's quite large isn't it, not sure I'd even get it past the wife.

Subs aren't really about loudness. Or at least they don't have to be. I don't have a Sonos sub but I do have a pretty big one, and it's generally on the lowest setting. Still adds a lot to my AV. I also live in a terrace house.

I seem to have this idea in my mind that hifi purists would balk at the idea of using a sub to listen to music, thinking you should have proper speakers instead. But they'd probably tut at sonos generally because they're a bunch of fannies.

Fwiw, I have a ZP90 running through an AV system which incorporates a sub and a couple of floor standing speakers. Definitely sounds fuller than just a play:3 or 5. And like kalel says, you don't *have* to them super loud.

Anybody tried pairing two Play:5s? I'm really happy with my single one but I'm a sucker for hearing the definite stereo separation of tracks, and you don't really get that with a single Play:5.

    Having 2 also means I can multi-room.

Bought a 40" Samsung f8000 telly and a playbar at the weekend. Wow. Seriously impressed with the kit. Managed to find an app that'll let me stream the music from my s3 and my google music collection to the playbar and I can run YouTube playlists through the telly. Also have spotify. The picture on the telly is incredible too. Happy as a dog with two dicks.

Mind me asking how? This is a much-requested feature on the Sonos forums.

I'm sure pairing two fives is amazing, although possibly actually bordering on an extravagance. I'd consider getting a couple of 3s and moving the 5 into another room. You're spending a little more but definitely getting better value.

2 5s and a sub I'd consider an extravagance. Also, the fact I'm considering buying a 3 to use as an alarm clock is very much OTT.

It's funny, initially my plan was to get Connect:Amps for every room and install ceiling-mounted speakers, but that's such an expensive and inflexible plan that I now think it's a terrible idea. At least with 3s and 5s I can more easily take them with me should I ever move house.

Incidentally, I went to a PC World last week and attempted to show my mate how good the 5 was but the demo unit they had in the store sounded terrible. I don't know if the speakers had been blown or whether the phone they were pumping music to it from contained heavily compressed MP3s or what, but he wasn't at all impressed and I didn't manage to convert him to the cult.

My second 3 is in the post (and the 5 will move into the kitchen) \o/

Oh and I can't believe how expensive the subs are. :Z

Yeah, this. I reeeeeally want one but know I'd only ever use 10% of its potential. I wish they'd produce a mini-Sub for £300-400 or so.

You shouldn't need the sub to go with a 5, especially not two of them.

Can you pair a 3 with a 5? Might be a short tern solution before getting a second 3 and moving the 5 into another room.
  • Deleted user 2 July 2013 09:06:20
I'd imagine a mini-sub is in the pipeline, along with even smaller speakers. Now that they've done the playbar a set of smaller speakers to act as rears seems like a no brainer.

You can't pair a 3 and a 5 but you can group them, and then set the balance on one to the right and the other to the left to get the stereo effect. I tried it in my living room when weighing up whether to get a second 3 or a second 5, and it sounded pretty good.

Yes, £520 just for rear speakers is ludicrously expensive.
