I looked at this, but in the end, the lack of other audio formats put me off. Went with a full on receiver in the end, which I love, even if I get moaned at for not having sorted the cabling out properly in a year....

The Roku Ultra has the option to passthrough 5.1 sound via optical if your TV doesn't.

It's one of the very few (maybe only) media players that does. Not sure if you can buy it here in the UK yet. I had mine imported from US, cost about £100 and works well with the Playbar. It's 4K HDR as well.

Kalel - have you got the sub? Is it necessary?
Howdo Hairy. Iíve got a full living room setup, and Iím luck enough to be detached so can take full advantage of the sub. I have to say that if I was attached that I think Iíd turn the sub off/ sell it because it can go freakishly deep, particularly at volume.

If there is a place you can demo a full setup then the sub can be toggled on and off and Iíd suggest going for a listen without the sub first if you can.

Alexa support for Sonos launched today. Failed the first two things I tried so not a good start.

If it works, that might encourage me to get a Dot or whatever the cheapest Alexa thing is. But that's really fucking lazy. The app is perfectly serviceable.

Sonos One out 24th Oct, just a Play one with an Amazon Dot in pretty much.

Controlling music via voice is a bit crap on the most part, there's all sorts of technobabble about far field mics but IME (with a Dot and a Google Home) it has trouble hearing you if the music is at any sort of volume. Also Amazon is AWFUL at finding music compared to Google, you have to get the title absolutely bang on or it will get confused and try and play something else 'you might like', which generally seems to be Ed Sheeran, which I most definitely would not like.

Yep I can't stand controlling music by voice, aside from not hearing you or mishearing you, the worst bit is actually thinking of what to listen by memory / name instead of just scrolling through a list.

Didn't know about this Sonos ONE before, suppose I could look this up myself but is there any other change / improvement?

This thread is as close as I can find, hopefully, for an answer. Point me to the right thread of such a thing exists :)

My Roberts iStream2 has decided tonight not to connect to our internet. I haven't changed a thing, radio or router.

Google searches throws up a load of technical guff that is easy over my head.

Other than a factory reset - oh joy, manually inputting all the data again, can't wait.

    Any other ideas, solutions?

    Thank you as always.

So what, dang, will I ever be able to control my 'old' Sonos speaker with my Google Home?

Apparently Sonos are emailing out codes to get a half price Echo Dot to selected registered users. I haven't received one despite registering mine back in February, humbug. If anyone gets one that they don't want then I'd be happy to take it off your hands!

I'm dithering. 25 quid isn't bad, but will I use it?

I was also considering getting a Sonos One but apparently you can't pair them with a play:1.

    What, that's mad!

I have a code too and am also dithering. Not convinced I'll use it much, I like to browse through playlists to see what I feel like etc. Hmm

    @TheSaint, integration any better?

But you can "group" them though? As opposed to pairing.

John Lewis and Richer Sounds have just had £90 off a Gen 2 Play 5, managed to get on in the AM and went up by the afternoon. Keep an eye out for that one turning up again.

I think thatís their new price but they are making out like itís a sale. After all, why would you buy a Play 1 for 199 when you can get the same speaker with a Alexa baked in for the same price.
