True. The Currys offer might appeal…

Started to look into these but found that you can't stream YouTube through it without messy workarounds

Seems like it should for 200 pops a go.

That's got to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard all year, and the year is almost over.

Why would a system that is solely interested in streaming audio do YouTube? I get that YouTube has a ton of songs on it, but if you're dropping 200 quid on a speaker than surely a subscription to something like Spotify or Deezer isn't that much of a stretch?

It is a bit crappy that only their flagship products have line-in, tho

@Kostabi I'm not a big music buff to use a subscription service. I just want to stream the odd song and podcast here and there.

Ah makes sense. To be honest, if you just want that then anything Sonos sell is probably overkill for your needs.

You'd be better off with an Amazon echo in that case.

It's got Bluetooth to stream sound from your phone/whatever and hooks into radio and podcast apps.

The mid-tier one is fine for like a kitchen or something. Not bad sound at all for something the size of a coffee can.

Grabbed another Play:1 (which brings us to a total of 3, plus a Play3 and a soundbar)

    :D

@ibenam Do what we did in my office and get a Kurzweil / Chromecast combo.

You can have a multi room set up as well. Only massive annoyance is that you have to either pay for YouTube red or have your screen on to cast YouTube.

Balls. We quite liked the echo we had in the living room, but moved it to the kitchen instead, so I bought a Sonos one (the one with alexa) for the living room to get a better sound there. I was thinking about buying a PLAY:1 to use as another speaker to get full stereo sound, since we wouldn't need another sonos with voice control. Which I apparently can't do, they will play the same thing, we'd lose the L&R speaker option. Should have done more research first I guess, but c'est la vie. :(

Guess I'll have to pony up the wee bit extra for another One and pair them instead, but I am holding off for now.

To be honest, since I'm mostly using apps to control it anyway, 2x Play:1 was probably the way to go, so the alexa was an addition that wasn't really required, especially since we can't even use it to call up to the boy in his room either- I guess shouting upstairs will remain the norm! :-)

Glad it's not just my house where hollaring up (or down) the stairs is standard!

Anyone know what time the new gear is announced? I've just had my bonus and am ready to jizz a fair chunk of it on stuff I don't need.

No better way to spend a bonus imo.

I'm hoping that it's just going to be Alexa enabled versions of existing gear which, hopefully, will push the prices of the old kit down.

If it’s an updated HDMI sound bar then I’m going to have a bit of a dilemma on my hands, particularly if it fits in the same wall mount bracket.
