EG (or me, if you like) will be on BBC Breakfast news on Weds morning discussing the ipod, and why Apple has done so well out of it. Anyone like to offer their thoughts on the subject. Best answers make it onto the BBC!

Why you guys on the ipod?! Confused.....!

You'll have to have a word with that Natasha and tell her to stop dressing like a 50 year old US anchorwoman!

It's successful because the country is full of (soon to be mugged) fashion-centric sheep. "Look this is cool so buy it!"

It was the first product of its type that was well designed, stylish, affordable, easy to use and fashionable.

Sorry Kruds, but I'd rather watch Suzi Perry talking about the iPod.

The Beeb still have me down as a general commentator from my CTW days. I did about four appearances in all back then, once actually alongside the anchors talking about why PS2 was going to be huge (which at the time looked a bit stupid). Most recently (Dec 2002) I was arsing on about why 18 certificate games like GTA VC and The Getaway were proving so popular.

I talk like an absolute buffoon in front of a camera. Expect to laugh lots. Or cringe.

It's one of the first pieces of digital technology to catch the average person's imagination by enabling them to have their entire collection in one small place so there's no swapping of tapes or CDs.

    Plus, it's fashionable.

What time did you say Krudster?
  • Deleted user 12 July 2004 17:45:03
Don't worry about it Kristan, that's the natural human reaction to being in front of a camera isn't it?

I remember when I was at uni, we had a tv studio day where we were all allocated different roles for the day for regional news type program. Anyway, I got the role of fucking TV Presenter, had to sit there in front of the worlds hottest light bulbs reading autocues and talking shit all day. Can be quite intimidating, and fair play to you for having the balls to do it... or does money have something to do with it?

As long as you don't come over like a completely arrogant tool like a former Edge "journo" did on a previous BBC Breakfast you'll be fine.

Can't remember who it was but his sneering attitude to the obviously not that gaming knowledgeable presenters really got on my tits.

Hmmm, I bet that if you look at the sales figures for iPods against the rise in headphone sales there'll be a 2:1 correlation. This is due to people buying a second iPod and not posing with the white earphones this time.

No time slot as such. I think those things are left until late in the day to decide (or sometimes kicked altogether if something more important crops up).

    No money involved, sadly!

Any chance of having the interview put up on Eurofiles?

Are we talking about the iPod, or Digital Music Players which are now referred to as "iPods" in general?

A lot of it is down to word of mouth. I keep getting told (by Nathan Barley types) that the iPod UI is great, so whenever I'm comparing a new music player in the back of my head I'm thinking 'but it won't have that (apparently) amazing Apple UI'. That said, I got my hands on one briefly the other day and the UI was pants.

Also, it was the first large capacity player I think, or at least it was the only large capacity player for a long time which wan't marketed purely at techies.

What time are you on, by the way?

Haha, now there's a challenge Kristan - see how many forum members' names you can mention during the interview. I'll buy you a drink or ten if you can manage HairyArse.

    Fairly simple I would imagine:

    1) They got the tech and the user interface right.
    2) They got the image and the marketing right.

    'nuff said.
