| I know a lot of people hate it when their favourite books are adapted because the results are usually shit or at least far worse than the books. |
What books would you like to see adapted into movies?

Snuff, by Chuck Palahniuk.
I'd say all the Michael Connelly books about Harry Bosch but I don't think a movie would do a very good job with them. They should each be adapted for TV - maybe 2x2hrs each, even. There's enough material in them for that. -

The Last Wish. That's ignoring the godawful Polish TV-Movie they did of it. -

so much so that I have placed a copy in the library of Peter Jackson's production company in Wellington (Three Foot Six). He said he would get round to reading it after King Kong. Still waiting... -

I'd (seriously) love to see someone make The Guardians (John Christopher) into a film. Always thought it was better than The Tripods. -

I'd forgotten about the horses actually, I just like the whole post-apocalypse religion gone mad thing. And telepathy, obviously. It's a great book and would make a marvellous film.
Vurt would be good Tonka, but I'm not sure how they would realise it. At all. -
Pretty much anything by Alastair Reynolds -

Definitely this.
I'd like to see someone tackle The Peace War and Marooned in Realtime by Vernor Vinge. Those could be epic if handled well.
Consider Phlebas would be awesome, but I think it would work better as a mini-series. Same goes for a lot of sci-fi books. Fire Upon the Deep as a big budget mini-series could be amazing. -

Lead role? I can't help but think of Charles Bronson, but he's too old now. -

Registered 20 years agoStainless Steel Rat would be a peach of a film if they got the lead right (alas, the person who would've been perfect for the part - Steve McQueen - was born a few decades too early and died a few decades too early)
Would also love to see someone do Rama properly. -

I remember the last time Hollywood had a go at making it. They made a mess of it. The Beeb series was good (just had a repeat showing on BBC4 as it appens) but the effects were a bit shit and low tech. Hopefully they won't CGI the shit out of the Triffids.
The Guardians would be good but the whole class divide thing would probably seem a bit twee and out of place if they made it today. No one really gives a rat's arse about the class divide anymore do they? -
too dead
wikitrivia: Bronson's family was so poor that, at one time, he reportedly had to wear his sister's dress to school because he had nothing else to wear
