Wow, that's a great price. But I'm going to stick with the (£39 ;_ Steelbook from GAME. |

Was just putting that out there. I think ChoicesUK had it at £26.99 at one point too! -

Registered 16 years agoSomeone on another forum noticed that the Kuro Editiion DLC is downloadable for free on the PSN store. Mistake? Possibly.
Now that I've downloaded it, I'm left wondering whether it's worth paying £9 for a Steelbook. At the moment I'm leaning towards "no". -

Registered 16 years agoI think I like it just as much. It's definitely a lot better than the horrendous Yakuza 3 box art, and probably the best of the series so far.
But still, it's not a Steelbook. Decisions... -

Registered 16 years agoSteelbooks, Collector's Tins, whatever they call them. Trash.
The general idea is to squeeze consumers, make it look like they're getting something better and charge for it, often there's a difference of £10 or more. But the publisher is raking it in because they're using the cheapest, least durable materials. It only needs to hold together long enough for somebody to hand over their money.
The Resident Evil 4 collector's tin I once owned, ended up looking like something that tumbled out of a skip. A cheap, metal outer that made a value brand lager can look sturdy, picked up dents and scratches.
The plastic inner was made from lower quality plastic than the platform holders allowed for standard cases and was exceedingly brittle. First the manual had nothing left to hold it in, out onto the floor every time you opened the case, then the spindles holding the discs started to give way to and they rattled around picking up some nice scratches.
I didn't even dare to touch my Final Fantasy XII collector's tin, it still picked up a small dent on one edge and some paint rubbed off on the edges.
These pieces of tat pull off the impressive feat of being worse than PAL Dreamcast jewel cases. -

Registered 18 years agoSteelbook? Now that is tempting. But do agree that the artwork on the standard edition is much better and not really worth the extra £9 they are asking for. The extra special DLC stuff I'm sure I can live without and no doubt buy later on if I really want it.
Sod it, normal edition it is then. -

Registered 16 years agoThe Yakuza 4 Kuro Edition has the same RRP as the standard edition, but it's a GAME exclusive and their discounts tend to be lower than their competitors'.
So this means GAME, and not the publisher, is hoovering up that 9 quid. Wait... that's even worse! Right, 30 quid standard edition from ShopTo it is! -

Registered 12 years agoI'll never understand why publishers don't sell special editions of niche games through their own site. Anyone who is hardcore enough to want a special edition of Y4 is going to be reading gaming news websites where they could announce it. Why not just offer, say, 500 units for £35 each with an artbook and a soundtrack? Get the intern to print off address labels & seal the parcels and Bob's your uncle. Far more lucrative than shipping it off to GAME/Amazon/etc. -

Registered 18 years agoRetailer issues, maybe? If you are already struggling to get people's eyes onto your game on the shelves, you don't want to risk pissing off the distributors and retailers by punting the game yourself. -

Registered 12 years agoDidn't know about NISA's site. That's quite cool although some of their extras leave a bit to be desired (a pin? a sticker?). At least the price is right.
Ghostlight overcharge and in my experience their extras are a bit crap. I bought their own special edition of Agarest for £30 on Amazon when they were charging £40 for it on their website. Charging £40 for P3P and then spamming forums with a '£5 discount code' is just shitty. It should be £20-25 at the most.
The issue with retailers not liking it is possible, but how many people still walk into a game shop looking for something like Yakuza 4? I'd imagine almost all of their sales are online.
Thanks for the earlier heads up about the free DLC btw. -

ShopTo are shipping the game today--got my text message earlier this morning--so I should be playing at some point tomorrow. Whee. -
So, what are the "improvements" in the 4th game lads ? (beside the multi-character thing).
Having played both the Jpn and EU demos can't say that - technically at least - is that much different, the game still runs in blur-o-vision and framerate drops are ghastly and abundant (Yakuza 3 didn't have them).
Honest question, it's just that i find kind of difficult paying full price for it... -

Registered 16 years agoWhile playing the demo I noticed some framerate droppage in the fight that took place during the rain, but it didn't bother me too much.
For us filthy Westerners the main improvements would be that, unlike Yakuza 3, the game is almost entirely intact. For me that alone warranted a day 1 purchase. -

Registered 17 years agoI can't say I've noticed many improvements from Yakuza 3. Running around Kamarocho, you can go up onto some rooftops now and also into the underground to travel around. There's supposed to be a mall in the underground too but I haven't got around to looking around down there yet.
I'm enjoying the story far but I'm not very far in. Just reached the 2nd chapter. -

Likewise. First time order with them after having unfounded jitters about the DLC. Glad I did though. Should arrive well before Friday.
Only got round to playing Yakuza 3 in the last month. Sure, it's hampered with problems that are easy to fix but they did recede as the story / character progressed and I could find my way around the marker-less map.
Looking forward to the new fighting styles from the taste of the demo even though many of the heat moves are copied and pasted from 3.
Hoping we get the Underground Coliseum fairly early on. Oh, and new karaoke tracks. The missus likes them, particularly the slow number that Kazuma finished with an "Arigatou Gozaimashita" in true world-weary crooner fashion. I always rounded off a session with a few tunes and a Suntory or two. -

The situation with the DLC is odd. GAME has it listed for the Steelbook version only, but my standard version says its comes with it. It actually says the extra content is "previously only available in Japan", you know, like the whole game. There's a code inside the box for it, but I downloaded it from the store first. I put the code in to see if it worked and it said it was invalid. Wierd. -
Isn't the DLC on the store too? Or is that some other DLC?
