Heh, cheers. The phone hasn't actually been bought yet, despite what I posted! Still got a toss-up between the Hero and HD2 on my hands. I really like the HD2.

Registered 13 years agoAll the reviews say that the HD2 is superb apart from the fact it is WinMo. The Hero is really is a cracking phone and would be the one I would go for. -

Registered 14 years agoAnother vote for the Hero!
I also just got my video Podcasts sorted. Simply download them from iTunes as normal and then run them through Handbrake on standard iPod Touch/iPhone settings.
You get a .m4v file that plays perfectly through the Hero's built in video player. -

Got mine.
Messed about a bit with the wireless, still got to add contacts and sort out a few other things so I'm sticking to my old phone for a few days until that's all done. Still, seems pretty cool so far. Pretty pleased. -

Registered 17 years agoi do quite want one of these. is there anywhere i could get one, unlocked/unbranded for less than 300 quid? i found it on hongkongshop.net for $470.50 (~£290) but that site looks a bit dodgy to me and google doesn't seem to return anything useful about it. although it has been around for 10 years. -

Registered 20 years agoWell...it looks like there's a new ROM on HTC's site. No idea what changes it includes.
edit: Never mind, it's an update for 3 (Hutchinson) branded models. -

Registered 19 years agoI'm starting to think about getting one of these. Just finished an 18 month contract with o2 and moved to a simplicity tariff with unlimited web. Thought of an iPhone but really liking the HTC Hero so far.
Should I stick with the SIM and get myself an HTC Hero or just grab myself another contract? Was sick of paying £35 a month for 18 months with my Sony Ericsson C902 and need something new. -

Registered 17 years agoThinking of getting one of these too. Need to get myself a contract too, as my work phone is being taken away from me (due to me leaving them, understandably). Anywhere doing a good deal? I'm thinking in terms of a decent amount of internet access here. -

Registered 19 years agoI see o2 aren't doing any Hero's but they do the HTC HD2. Orange and Vodaphone are the only ones doing contracts as far as I can see. Orange seem to be the best but I don't see any mention of web usage yet. -

Registered 13 years agoStill on T-mobile; got mine early december: £25 p/month 300 mins unlimited texts unlimited net (around 7gb I'm told instore).
Really enjoying it, it's just remarkably useful to have in my pocket. I make no claims regarding it's capability against certain other phones, but I can safely say this has been pretty much everything I wanted it to be.
The geek in me is hoping for an android update soon, though. -

Don't go there, 3 are shit when it comes to customer service! -
I've got a Hero... and it's the worst phone I've owned since the orange-coloured Bosch handset I got in the mid 90s. Loads of bells and whistles, but I'm constantly having to reset it to get it to reconnect to the mobile network (even thought it shows I've got H or 3G signal), it fails to send messages all the time, the battery life is less than 24 hours unless you turn most of the features I bought the phone for off, and worst of all, when I try to make a call it hangs on "Dialing" for ages and then doesn't connect, and when people try to call me it goes straight to answerphone and then doesn't bother to let me know I've got a message!
In fact, at least that Bosch made calls, so the Hero is in fact the worst phone I've ever owned. I regret not getting an iPhone sooooo much! -

the hero you have sounds very broken, mine has none of those problems -
it's an unbranded one, one of the first ones released. My bro's got the same one, and a guy at work has an Orange branded one, and we all have the same issues. We've all updated to the latest firmware. Are any of you guys on Orange UK?
I've read about other people having similar problems, they've said it's to do with moving out of the range of a Wi-Fi network you're connected to, it doesn't switch properly to the mobile network. I dunno if that's true with mine, mine seems completely random as to when it stops working. -

Exactly why I'm currently aweaiting a letter back from the head of complaints about my N97
But still, they offer it. -

Registered 19 years agoHad a look at 3 but over here they're even worse. It's rare to even find anyone on that network. Orange is pretty shit in this area too so I'm just going to stick with o2 and maybe buy the phone, though I'm still not sold. Just after a new gadget really! Could do without paying £350 for a phone! -
