For the last couple of days I have been toying around with Picasa a free piece of software for organising your piccies. It is very much like iPhoto but is PC only, it has a very slick Directx interface with resizable thumbnails and a wicked slideshow feature. It is now part of google so there may be some intergartion with gmail at a later date.

Has anyone else given this a whirl yet?

I had a go with it the other day. Its a free bit of software now owned by Google. Its seems quite good - but thats in comparison to my own filing system.

Ooh... might give that a go, having just joined the digital world myself recently.

I got a copy of ACDSee free with my camera, which seems alright. Shall compare and contrast the two. ;-)

I quite like XP's thumbnail view for browsing photos, but a software App might be nice....Is it good?

I've been using this for a few months now (didn't realise it had become Googled) and yeah, it's pretty neat - they've been promising version 2.0 for ages and I'd assumed it had been abandoned - maybe that'll change now.

It does have a couple of issues though. The printing is very limited (won't do two 6x4s on a single page IIRC) and neither will it browse removable media - you have to import the images onto the HDD.

They also repeatedly go on about their 'timeline' view but really, it's of very little use - the standard slideshow is better but still sometimes appears a little fuzzy.

Still, now it's free it should be worth a download at least.

Heh, it's free though so i'll download anyway and see if it's worth it.
It's annoying if I want to print a photo going into Paint Shop Pro, resizing to fit a certain size and hoping it retains full quality.
Hopefully, this package can do all that :)

Edit: Review of the above software.

Oh yeah, you can crop, rotate and do red eye correction with it as well.
