    /drools

Well they've certainy got a decent artist on board, but you're probably right. I wish them the best of luck though, it would be awesome if they can pull it off.

The original SS2 made me jump, using the Doom3 engine I'd need a commode(sp?).

If they pull this off it will be superb. Not to mention terrifying.

Fuck SS2, when are they going to do a good conversion of the first one?!
    A /much/ better plot.

I think they're equally good, but yeah a remake of the original would be excellent.

There have been a couple of attempts over the years but iirc neither got much further than proof of concept testing. I remember downloading one which was just the first few rooms of the opening level of System Shock, and it was cool, but they never got any further :o(

Very nice, SS2 was certainly one of the scariest games I ever played and the thought of cyborg midwives is still as chilling today as it was back then. Wasn't there also a mod with high-res textures floating around a while back? I guess it must have died a quiet death because its page seems long gone.

    Bring on SS3 (yeah right).

Nope, it's still there, but it looks like they've abandoned it since the last release in January.

    Well, so much for that.

Cheers to Khanivor, whose comment on the matter in another thread caught my attention.

Now there is a game that I haven't played for ages, must get the time to actually play it and stop with all this new game crap...clearly Eurogamers articles have no influence on me what-so-ever.

Never having played System Shock 2, anyone know where you can get a copy nowadays? Fairly cheap, natch.

Pardon the bad pun but shouldn't this thread be now renamed to "SS2 remake - booted"?

It's practically (and by now I'd imagine totally) impossible to find a new copy, and chances are anyone selling a second hand copy won't part with it cheap...

Just to touch on the XP thing - if your system has Hyperthreading you'll need to tell the 2 active SS2 programs to only use one CPU otherwise the game's hopelessly unstable.

the delicious 'abandonware' site the underdogs has a cd-rip. i believe it just missing the movies and music perhaps, but at least you will be able to play it.

i'll give it a try here.

    and that was my 2000.
heres an idea. lets give this SS2 rip a whirl and see if it works. if so, lets organise some co-op play?
im sure we could pump at least 2-3 hours in one session.

players in each category: "weapons, sci and TECH!!!" (a-la chick on the comms)

is it still on sups? i bought 2 copies over the last couple of years, gave them to some friends and of course: never saw them again.

a full cd would be nicer than a rip.

Could be good but will probably be a nostalgic cash in with a quarter of the originality.

Erm, it's a remaster. So it's exactly the same game but pretty. Watching that video I was flashing back to playing SS1 in the 90s so they're obviously on the right track.

That said, I originally played it at about 3fps in a postage stamp sized window because it shat all over my 486 DX2 66Mhz.

Looks pretty and I see no harm in remaking a 20 year old game so new audiences will try it.

Yeah, I think this crops up every few years and divides opinion. The first was definitely the more ambitious, but I've ploughed waaaay more hours into the second and therefore remember it more fondly. That and I had a better PC by then.
