We're looking into getting another dog. A whippet collie cross to go with Stanley. Taking her out from the shelter tomorrow for a walk to see how we get on.

It's not even from a breeder, it's someone who's adopted a dog that turned out to be pregnant.

Bah. Indication was at first that it may be 'free to a good home' or at least cover costs. Gorgeous little thing too - my daughters would adore it.

Going to find themselves stuck with a lot of dogs at that price.

Must be a dog rescue place nearby, just tell them your after a pup and they'll keep in touch.

Our retired greyhound was only 2 when we had her. When we took her home we were given a lead, muzzle, coat and various other bits and bobs, plus a weeks worth of food, and not to mention a lifetime of help and support should we need it and regular organised gatherings/walks etc where they offer nail clipping etc and a secure field to let them run off the lead. I donated 100 when we adopted her, and I felt like it wasn't enough, but they told me the average is about 50.

300 for a puppy from some random dog owner's unexpected litter is ridiculous. Sure it's still much better than supporting a breeder, but that's an absurd amount to ask for, and as Goban says your best bet is a rescue shelter.

This is Hank, our one year old Dogue De Bordeaux, weighing in at just over 60KGs currently, still growing.

    He walks us obviously.

We recently rehomed a husky called Dylan. Two and a half years old but the rehome wasn't due to neglect (previous owners expecting their first and it was more a space thing)

Lovely boy though. Keeps me on my feet!

Hank is awesome! That's what you call a dog.

Dylan is also brilliant, by the way - I love huskies :)
  • Deleted user 18 July 2014 14:16:40
Yeah, Huskies are awesome. (Also Hank. Hank is awesome).

Here's my rescue lurcher, Connie. I've had her for just over a year. She sleeps in ridiculous positions and is adorably stupid.

Just what I thought. Sorry, but a real dog should look like it could hurt more than your ear drums.

Looking at getting a dog. A french bulldog to be precise. However want to get a good one from a breeder but they are asking 1800. What the hell!

This just made me get something in my eyes. Real sad but nice too.
My dog is getting a special cuddle when I get home today.

I'd never, ever buy a dog from a breeder. There are thousands of dogs that need homes, so I can't fathom why people choose to buy one.

We just got a new pup a few days ago, he's a Jack Russell/Beagle cross, 8 weeks old so a very active little thing currently. He's from a charity rescue shelter, his Mum was rescued and he was born at the shelter itself. We've called him Cooper.

Our Malamute was from a breeder. Cost us 900. Prices vary if you want it as a pet or for breeding more dogs. Ours is a pet.

Our Husky wasn't from a pedigree breeder. Still cost a few pennies mind.

This. Don't buy dogs from breeders.
