I have made a terrible fuckup. I bought a 27" monitor and it's too fucking big. It feels like I will definitely go blind at last just like mom said I would that time after I was looking at Rodpad's Instagram and I turned round to see a cup of coffee and some Eggos she made me

    JUST BUY IT

Doesnt he already have the AMD board? Chuck in a cheap Ryzen chip for now and get Zen 2 next year but for sure, dual channel plus Noctua. D15. Id stick a D15 on my mums cat if shed let me.
It's all running, picked up what I needed after a bit of bad news and had a gen 1 ryzen 1600x for now, I know it's not ideal but the same ram may be under 100 soon and lucky my ocd doesn't fill it with another 2 sticks by the end.

It runs well and room for another couple ryzen upgrades and gfx later On.

My old monitor kicked the bucket a few weeks ago (thought at first it was a booting problem but turned out that it was just the monitor) so had to make the new monitor choice. I considered a 27" (1440P) as had previously been running 24" monitors (the last emergency one being an old 16:10 one to replace a dead one) but decided in the end to go for a 21:9 1080P 29" one for a bit of a change. I am quite happy with it and the extra acreen width works really nicely in RPGs and the like and the size feels just right for my desk. Now I need to get a new GPU as I cannot survive on HD4600 much longer ;).

It's still too big, which I've decided to combat via buying a very deep desk

Anyway, I got round to unpacking my budget Optiplex and found it was higher spec than advertised - it has an SSD as well as a 2TB secondary HDD. 8Gb RAM, i7, so I bought a 1050ti card (and a 500W PSU which I'm hoping I won't need as Dell like an 8 pin plug on the motherboard rather than the standard 24 and the adapter is in China).

Oddly, the benchmark program thinks my SSD is slower than the mechanical drive. Weird.

Anyway, short of the monitor and assuming the card works with the crappy OEM PSU for now, I've built a not-completely-shit shit RIG for about the cost of an Xbone, which feels like a good deal

There's no point without the graphics card. When it arrives I might.

I've spent fuck all on this. It even came with Windows 8, I upgraded to 10 because tMS still let you do that for nothing, weirdly

She's sleeping now, maybe tomorrow. What's 'good' anyway? Graphics and storage came back as areas to improve (not surprisingly). I'm only really going to use it for some app ideas and maybe a bit of BeamNG

This is pretty standard for a Sata SSD.

I thought MS had stopped the upgrade years ago. 4K monitors were one category I ignored, both because I sit close to a monitor and because I'd need a 1080TI class card for it ..

Currently waiting to see what is new gfx cardwise in January (as announcements from ATI expected) but not had an ATI card since my 4890 so not sure what they are like for drivers now (They do look scary in power draw though, and with a 720W psu possibly couldn't even run the Vega 64). Need to decide if I want to go Nvidia or ATI though (monitor is Freesync but never used that or Gsync so no idea how good or useful it really is).

AMD drivers have been fine for a while, no problems with my old RX 480. Nvidia are having driver issues these days tbh plus their control panel looks a bit Windows 98.

They stated they had, but it still works. No doubt fully loaded with spyware but

PC went kaput yesterday...I tried to play an MKV and she turned off and wont power up now.

When the power button is pressed light flickers and fans twitch but nothing else. I'm hoping its just the PSU.

On that subject any recommendations for replacements, the one that appears to have died is a 9 year old Corsair HX850.

I dont think i need one with as high a wattage as that anymore so i was thinking a Corsair CX650M should suffice...

God i hope its not the motherboard thats gone...:(

    @Buztafen

Thats what i use generally. Think i have an EVGA G2 600/650W or so and its way more than enough.

    @Malek86

    Malek86,

    I'm running the following:-

    i5-4670k @4.2, 16gb ram.
    EVGA GTX 780
    1 x SSD
    2 x HD
    plus a few usb peripherals...

    I think a 600w psu should suffice.

This looks like a good deal at the moment! TX-M 750 cheaper than the equivalent CXM and the TX-M 650!?

    TX-M 750w

Yeah, probably even a good-quality 500W would do. The power requirements listed by the manufacturers are always slightly overblown.

Obviously 600W will keep you safer in case you eventually want to add some stuff later on, so I'd say go for it.

I've got a 1200w PSU that I use to power a small town.

I honestly don't know what i was thinking when i got the previous HX850. Maybe i thought i'd be going SLI at some point in the future...then kids came along to scupper that plan!

EDIT: Just had a look at the power requirements for the GTX 780...600w or greater! No wonder i went for one with a little extra headroom.

Bought an Asus Rog Strix lappy from eBay. It rocked up today in a massive box with barely any bubble wrap round it. Laptop full of pubes as well.

    FUCKING HELL!!

Ha it seems to be fine. Fuck knows how he thought that bubble wrap was adequate. Anyway Battletech, Wolfie II and Dusk downloading.
