    zzzzzzzzzzz

Should be open to everyone in the first place. I can't see how something like this should be celebrated, tbh. It should be derided.

No, what should be derided is the original exclusive deal with o2. This IS to be celebrated. The market opening up is normally always good for the consumer.

Anyone with a contract that's about to come to renewal will benefit from this, those that are some way off will benefit even more as the price war continues. All the major networks now have the iphone. They will all have to upgrade their 3G infrastructure now.

O2 especially so as they have the Palm Pre releasing to market shortly and with the iphone and that eating up network bandwidth they will have the largest strain.

Orange just need to upgrade their network full stop. Vodafone might be able to get away with keeping the network as is in the short term, but they will eventually have to upgrade to meet demand.

Power to the cosumer brothers and sisters POWER!

A new phone will be available for a phone network? WOW.
  • Deleted user 29 September 2009 10:14:17
No fags, your missing the point. This isn't just about the phone, it's about price and service.

    Edit: Read my second post.

All we need now is the announcement from 3.

I doubt it, their network would just collapse. :p

I'm due a contract renewal soon and was thinking of switching from O2 to Vodaphone... a good decision? No particular reason; I just fancy a change.

Great news as far as I'm concerend. Seeing as though the Orange announcement was irrelevant to the Irish market.

Might finally be able to graduate from my iPod Touch to the iPhone. Also my current phone is the frankly awful k850i, so roll on Jan 2010!

Interesting link on the BBC's .life blog yesterday to a pdf of 3G coverage by operator. Obviously 3 have the strongest, but then Orange are right in there. O2 and Vodafone have the worst.

I went the other way a few years ago and never looked back. Vodafone are rip off merchants.

Let's see how this price war effects them. Ofcourse they could all collude and keep the prices at the same level...I doubt they'll get away with that though. Infact I know they wouldn't.

This is bad news for me as it means that the iphone I buy for my girlfriends birthday at the end of October will be cheaper in a couple of months which sucks...

Starting to reconsider the gift now in the hopes that it would work out better as Christmas pressy if price war starts off quickly.

That said it probably wont take hold until Feb so... ugh I hate bad timing when it comes to buying gadgets for myself and I'd always hold off on hearing news like this but I'm kinda stuck...

Well, I'll obviously try to get a good price on my contract, else there's no point in changing. Would probably go to them direct, through their website.

Will at least check it out when I'm up for renewal.

All it takes is for one of them to undercut the other by a £1 and the war begins. Just wait until both Orange and Vodaphone announce pricing.

I wouldn't think the handset pricing has much room for movement as that is determined in conjunction with apple. Unless one of the Orange and Vodafone has a substantial amount left over in their subsidy kitties to throw at the handset. They may do but it's unlikely.

The real price war will be on the tariffs.

This PDF document is what askew was talking about I think - surprising how bad O2 are considering they've had iPhone exclusivity for so long! Complacency?

Yup compacency, that changes now. Could provide a nice little boost for the economy....could also lead to one of these going tits up if they dont manage costs properly.

You know, this might just be the thing that finally unites us as a planet.

    From an Apple product.

    Don't think so.

Ha ha Kalel. Would you like me to explain to you how it COULD provide a LITTLE boost the economy?

    No I didn't think so.

Edit: And while I'm being an emo about this, yes it COULD unite the world in peace. It's just not going to happen.

Don't forget in terms of coverage, Voda and O2 have announced an infrastructure sharing agreement.

I don't think there will be a significant difference in the tariffs imo. We'll see though
