I actually found that time limit battle very easy. What stuck me for a while was defeating the tank at the royal palace. For some reason it just stumped me!

That was easy for me! No problem.

I guess it depends on how you play the characters.

After some juggling I just gave up on it. It was almost as bad as the worm bosses at the start.

I really can't remember that. Also not the bosses from the second spoiler. I always felt that the game was quite easy as long as you played a dungeon as far as you were still leveling up quickly. I liked how they managed the levelling - basically no grinding needed.

There was one bit that annoyed the heck out of me: On that ice bridge you meet a group of dinosaurs which can call for backup, including a boss. I was quite low on health and didn't have the right items on the characters. No possibility to go shopping and no save game to get there again quickly.

LO was great, would have been much more enjoyable without the two kids though.

There was clearly more text in the original post, but this is the only line that really vindicates me. I felt that way during my first playthrough. LO is not a game that I enjoyed. And not a game I would feel comfortable endorsing. Blue Dragon, by a country mile.

I think Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are both great games, with LO having a slight edge because for me I found BD combat far too easy, which was particularly annoying as you can see the potential for depth and strategy in it, but very rarely did any of the bosses or creatures present a challenge. In fact, this thread has reminded me that one of the first things I was going to do after getting back on xboxlive was rebuy BD and download the Ultra Hard Mod (free) from the marketplace! Has anyone played BD with the UH mod, that can offer an opinion?

I'm with the Blue Dragon supporters here- lush graphics, polish and presentation, huge map, massive MQ 80+ hours of gameplay, lovely locations and great monster design, (except for the boss theme) very good background music, and (potentially) excellent combat. Great game imo. The negatives have already been mentioned, boss theme lol, and slightly wooden characters.

    Blue Dragon > Fable anyway!

So is it much too easy on normal? I really don't want to replay that hour I put in already.

It's not that bad. I got killed a few times on my play through. If you avoid grinding, the enemies can out pace you.

Thing is once you get out in the world map type areas (going from distant memory here) there are so many enemies everywhere and you just want to fight them all! Plus levelling up your abilities is addictive to say the least so it's hard not to grind like crazy.

EDIT- I'm on about Blue Dragon.

One thing I like about Blue Dragon is, Shu always bleats on about he "won't run away" in the cliche style, but in a nice touch, his character is the only one who can't use the run from battle command. It's small, and most won't notice it, because of never really needing to escape battles.

You'll have to confess what sort of a gamer you are. Personally speaking, I thought that the challenge was just on the right side of challenging. There are a handful of monsters that are so far above you in terms of strength and stamina, it is not worth attempting until you are at a hefty level 50.

On the normal mode it was pathetic. The only time I came up against any real challenge was when I stumbled across the optional bosses.

I hate to be as pedantic as a Tory, but I think that I'd be less inclined to carry a grudge for over 2 years, if you were to be careful how you word your displeasure. It wasn't a pathetic experience on normal. You just found it very easy and are clearly a gamer with a bit more skill than the average punter.

Having said that, I didn't continuously die neither, but that is actually a positive in my book. Lost Odyssey annoyed me because I seemed to find that there really was usually only one way to fight the baddies who were above grunt-status.

but to get back to my point, if you make it clear that you found it very easy, rather than it being very easy, we might just get along.
  • Deleted user 2 October 2009 11:56:49
Can we still get along even if I will never think BD is better than LO? :p

You Lexx87? I am sorry, every RPG fan that has played both those games needs to have BD as their preferred choice as a prerequisite for getting along with me.

But I liked the stories! :-(

I remember that bit with the three monsters where you have to keep pausing one and racing in the boat to the other and thats exactly where I gave up on the game, sadly...

My apologies. How about I clarify?

It was very easy for anyone that has more skill than a slightly brain damaged hamster.

That should clear things up. :)

LO is one of the finest games ever made. Play it! Play it now!

Having said that, it is achingly 'old school' so that might either entice you further or really put you off.

It took me two attempts to work out how to do it, and on the third attempt it was pretty easy in all honesty.

    /orders Blue Dragon.

Btw- comment above about the BD demo, the demo was awful, the full game is not. And it is easy lol! Has anyone tried it with the UH mod?

I remember that, and it seems there are strategies to it, but I've been lucky enough to just fight them and the game went on. In JRPG, I usually tend to pass supposed-to-be-hard parts easily, just to keep running into trouble where noone else even blinks. :)

Talking of demos, I gave the Tales of Vesperia one a spin and I found it to be excrutiatingly boring and pointless. Put me off from getting the game before it hits the extreme bargain bins.

If you do what the game tells you to do it's easy :)
