To be fair, there was also that incident where WAR: AR players were charged huge amounts by mistake.

So there's no additional fee from Click and Buy?

Yeah sorry Kafeen but Playonline was in no way fine.

Great idea, design a controller which will be clasped for days on end by clammy gamers in brilliant white!

What's the general consensus now that it's gone live then? More Levequests - any improvements?

When they review it I hope they review on the same MMO foundation as other MMOs rather than "intended for console thus reviewed as such" and without any final fantasy fanboy bias.

I didn't play ffxi that much but I'm loving ffxiv so far! The quests are pretty fulfilling and there's lots to do. It takes a little while to find your feet if your a bit of a noob like me but I'm getting there and enjoying it :) my only criticism so far is that there doesn't seem to be an auction house and you can't start crafting unless you are a crafting class :) other than that, it's great! (and tbh I'm probably wrong about those things xD)

But you can change into a crafting class when ever you want if you buy their tools.

I still haven't received my copy yet.

    According to the GAME website:
19/09/2010 Your order has been dispatched.
Shipping (Free Delivery - 2 business days)

What the hell is taking it so long?

Played it at a mate's house and the UI is still terrible, albeit with less lag so they must've switched some test code off. I'm going to be one of the stupid sheep and wait for Cata, at least they know how to properly create PC games, unlike all these Jap companies who have a fixation on controllers.

Yes, it's that bad and if you're ok with it, well, what's wrong with you lol.

    When will they learn...

Controller didn't stop me enjoying FFVII, XII, and so on...

I don't see why simply being on the PC means that having a controller as a primary input method is suddenly a crime. If anything it's helping to preserve the bottom right corner of my right-hand palm - the RPG lump.

Probably also worth mentioning that Hardware Mouse is enabled in the config, now.

Now, about my fairly limited time with the game so far, I'm finding it to be a very well pitched style of game. They're not going for a WoW-style, all day all night kind of affair, but rather a game to be enjoyed as part of a healthy gaming diet. Everything is generally very laid back; Harvesting for example takes a meaningful investment of time, and requires occasional input from the player - this comes across as a fairly relaxing activity, with suitable depth and skill necessary to really get the most out of it.

WoW to me felt very artificial and competitive - a race to level up. What were we doing on this quest? Who gives a fuck, let's complete it as soon as possible. A friend rushed one of my characters up to Level 40-50 in a matter of days, hopping across the world on a well-known path of high XP Vs time and effort.

I think if people actually look into what the game is offering, and stop falling at the badly misunderstood 'Lol, limited XP per week?' Hurdle, it might become more apparent what FFXIV is trying to do. An MMO doesn't have to be designed as an all-consuming monster of a title that dominates your gaming time.

No, put it still punishes players who have a lot of free time and actually want to play it.
  • Deleted user 26 September 2010 18:18:38
Its a complete non issue. Just switch your class frequently and you won't even see the capping.

It's not like it logs you out and stops you playing, either. It's just a natural cap on progression, to even things out a bit. This, in theory, should mean that at any given time there will be a greater number of people suitable for you to party up with and stuff. Someone may have rocketed up their Pugilist XP, but they can easily switch to Archer and level that with someone else just starting their Archer.

Character level is much less of a barrier here because not only can you level each and every profession on one character, but your friend with a spare weekend won't have raced dozens of levels ahead of you, meaning your opportunities to play together narrow substantially.

What I was trying to say before, is that this isn't a game for people with 90% of the week free to play on the computer. Or it can be, if they're happy to play other things too.

Its clear as day that they have done it to entice console gamers into the online rpg sphere, there is a massive audience out there still. Everyone plays online nowadays but there is still a stigma against MMOs, even from people who play Final Fantasy. If you take this into account, all their design decisions are perfectly logical. I agree though, there is still plenty on offer in this game for the more conventional mmo gamer. Just jokes.

Collectors Edition is out; like £40 at most places, and generally a very good CE as they go.

Official release is the 29th, I think, although that's not a Friday, so perhaps it's the 1st of Oct.

Server's are up though, so if somewhere like Amazon will deliver before release, you can log in.

Had a stand up argument with the gaping asshole blond bearded bald prick in the Peterborough branch of GAME today. He swore blind that FFXIV was not out until next march and kept jabbing his official GAME release schedule folder. At one point i could feel my bottom lip going with rage but thankfully shit didn't get serious and I left him and his fucking shit outfit to wallow in their own idiocy.

Picked up a copy from Gamestation instead who were also happy to join in the jokes about GAME and their attitude.

GAME is fucking shit and it only took me 1-2 minutes of being in one the other day to remind me why I hate it so much.

Get it from amazon or play instead...

So that's the reason why GAME is closing down so many shops... got my CE yesterday.
No play until the weekend though.

Feel like I've missed out a bit by not being one of the races other than Hyur, but...If any, I'd go for a Lalafel, and all I could think of was a hypothetical conversation with someone who was somewhat interested in the game, and their face when I revealed I played what is essentially a small, cherub-like, baby-soft child.

So I made a man with a beard, and that's that, for now.

I wasn't TOO keen on FFXI; I could never really get into it..and then I got banned after my account was hacked and used as a gold farmer, but that's not the point. (Lost my WoW account at the same time)

But, If I didn't fancy FFXI too much, am I gonna like FFXIV?
