Basically, two guys who work for College Humor (Streeter and Amir) are involved in an ever escalating prank war. They put a hell of a lot of effort into outdoing each other, and getting revenge for the last prank. They are hilarious, but also incredibly painful to watch, particularly as you realise the only way this will end is when they murder each others families. Part 1 - Streeter edits something awkward into the MP3 Amir is listening to. Part 2 - Amir sets Streeter up on a date with an imaginary fan. -the point at which things start edging over the line- Part 3 - Streeter enlists the help of Amir's friend to trick him into making an audition tape for a show that doesn't exist, then plays it to the whole office. Part 4 - Amir gets the crowd at an open mic night to not laugh at any of Streeter's jokes, and throw in some cruel heckles too. -the point at which serious emotional trauma becomes fair game- Part 5 - Streeter and Amir fly to LA where Streeter (with the help of Human Giant) trick Amir into thinking he's 1) going to be on TV and 2) that he's a terrible actor. -the point at which innocent parties are now caught in the crossfire, and things ramp up to a whole new level of insanity- Part 6 - Streeter and his girlfriend are at a baseball game. Amir pays to have a marriage proposal on screen, and things play out just as badly as you might imagine. -a slight return to a less brutal style of prank, but on an epic scale- Part 7 - Amir is selected for a blindfolded halfcourt basketball throw at halftime in a game, with a $500,000 prize. Streeter convinces the crowd to cheer as though Amir has made the shot. |

Part 8 - the entire thing is revealed as scripted setups anyway. -

7 separate (and not too short) videos would be a bit much for the "nuggets of joy" thread. I mainly created that as a place for all the little things I wanted to share that didn't quite warrant their own thread. These do. -

If they are all set ups, then both Amir and Streeter are brilliant actors. -

Registered 20 years agoThe best moment out of all the prank wars is when Amir sees that it is Streeter holding the $500,000 cheque, and instantly realises what has happened and drops to the floor. -

In part 5, Streeter basically built up Amir's dreams, and then took it all away. Short of convincing him his loved ones are dead, you can't really get much crueler than that. -

Registered 17 years agoSeen the earlier parts before and I thought they were bad! 7 was very funny, especially the moment of realisation when Streeter stands right next to him. Never seen part 6 before though - that was horrible! The work of a true evil genius. An incredibly evil genius! -

Mabye they are both in on it? Given the context they would be dumb not to realise the basketball thing was a setup
When they talk about it at the end of clip 7, they say the last prank before was more than 1 1/2 years ago - it's not like they set up traps for each other on a weekly basis.
edit:
Yeah, video 6 is from September 2007, video 7 is from April 2009. -

I think part 7 is as funny as parts 5 and 6, but less harsh. And really, it's the harshness that makes those ones so special. They're both probably rich and famous, though, so any success/money pranks are less devastating. -

They are both staff writers for an internet comedy websity thing. I'd be amazed if they could afford health insurance.
They are mildly famous on the internet though, but I would have thought that made part 5 all the more devastating, because breaking into comedy acting from minor internet fame was actually within the realms of probability, so Amir had little reason* not to get his hopes up and believe his dreams were on the path to coming true, before being utterly dashed.
*except for the whole prank war thingy, but like I said, Human Giant genuinely wanting a cameo from two CH staff isn't that much of a stretch. -

His reaction when he found out was priceless though
There is a difference between momentarily thinking you've won lots of money, and then realising that it was all a lie (i.e. going from normal, to ecstatic, then back to normal in the space of a few minutes) and having your dreams and aspirations built up and being led to believe them are coming true, being all excited about it for weeks beforehand, then realising that it was all a lie (i.e. going from normal, to incredibly excited about your future life, then brought firmly back to where you started, over the course of a few weeks).
The former is a light hearted prank on a truly epic scale. The latter is a very personally targeted and crushingly cruel prank on a medium scale. -

College Humor is massively popular, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're fairly well off. What I meant by "less devastating" is that they will still be well off after the prank. True cruelty would be doing that to a poor person. -

I certainly see your point there, but I still don't think they are "rich". -
I wish I had their lives, the only thing they seem to have that I don't is resources. And writers. -

I can see how the fear of being pranked probably permeates everything they do.
I wonder how long till one of them hires an actress to be the other's dream woman, waits until he's utterly in love, proposes and then at the wedding when the guests are asked "if anybody knows of any reason why these two should not be married", then stands up and reveals the whole thing was a hoax? -

Watched the first one. Are the rest just as unconvincing and obviously acted?
