Yes, A_B they do. And I say that well-informed having been interviewing WW2 veterans around the world for the past few years. Taking the examples you're speaking to:

    - The US has multiple 'VE days' throughout the year which manifest on a much grander scale than us over here. This is no doubt due to the cultural reverence for veterans in that country.
    - In Russia, there are various marches that takes place in accordance with key milestones. You can see one of these on one of Simon Reeve's documentaries.

As with most topics in life, there is nuance. And VE day does not automatically translate into some jingoistic chest-beating of the United Kingdom. Of course, there are those who narrow-mindedly leverage the event to fit their agenda. But given the origins of WW2 and what it achieved, I feel VE Day is worth celebrating, at least for as long as the aforementioned veterans remain alive.

Many states do something, but the proles don't get together to wave their mini flags and celebrate winning though, do they?

I don't know. I don't care about street parties, but i assume the locals celebrate their victory day off in some way.

Everyone must have lost someone given the crazy death tolls there.

My point is that despite many, many countries being involved and "victorious", you only see stuff like in this pic in one.

That's not an every year occurrence though, certainly not everywhere. Last year was the only street party I can remember being involved in or aware of

One hears he only selected Englishes or the gays for his basement torture sessions.

By which I mean detailing his favourite regional variations of Thai roti.

After that everyone probably went back in to their house and didn't talk to each other for 10 years.

This. I was going to say that as well. In a world facing a loneliness epidemic and a society that is far from cohesive, at the least these events bring people together.

Thank fuck I'm moving flat this weekend, neighbours below us are proper Essex scum who love having parties despite lockdown. Decided to have one last night, a fucking Sunday.

Decided to blast some metal very loudly for an hour this morning, hope they enjoyed that.
Just got a haircut and drove past the van owned by the cunts who came for this party...and someone has clamped them! Baaaahahahahahaha unlucky!!

    Delighted.

@myiagros That's what I thought as well - it's not a big deal but usually the owner gets the "bad" side as a courtesy. Most likely they felt they were "correcting" it. If it doesn't bother you I wouldn't say anything.

I'm half-Axis anyway so VE day is just like slap in the chops day for half of me. Maybe I should wave a Union Jack in my left hand and cry for poor Benito with the right side of my face.

There's 5 recycling bins/buckets for 3 flats. Unfortunately one of the neighbours is thick as shit and seems incapable of ever using them sensibly.

Just been down to find 4 of the 5 bins full of their shit. One had 6 large takeaway pizza boxes and 4 big bottles of Tango in it. The pizza boxes shouldn't even be in there as they are covered in grease, but they've made no attempt to flatten them. Same for the bottles of pop; is it that hard to squeeze the air out then put the lid on?

Every bloody week it's the same. Whatever it is, theres just no attempt to use them efficiently. Pretty sure they could get all of this weeks into one with a little effort.

Not the biggest problem in the world granted and I can put up with the constant shouting matches the mother and son seem to love, but it's just so inconsiderate and gets right on my tits.

Leave a note on the bin so they know not to do it again.

I've left an angry note in the recycling bins area.

People treating it like a skip and not separating their trash winds me up.

Good news, my neighbours are moving but got delayed till June. Thank fuck, the most selfish, loud cunts, sounds like they slam doors, draws, cabinets all the time. Their young kids scream all the time and sounds like they let them run around at 11pm or later
Congratulations. Hopefully your new neighbour has no kids and is super chill and quiet.
thanks, last neighbours had a kid (2 or 3?) and was not an issue. These ones are just mega cunts.

I'm not seeing the problem with bottles of pop. It's how we refer to them here at hermit towers.

Greasy pizza boxes is a hot topic, to recycle or not recycle?! And if you think I'm cutting out a sordid gloryhole you can FRO! Also, bottle tops, don't think hard plastic can be recycled last time I checked. No excuse for a squeeze though.

Don't most pizza places include a wee inlay to take up the grease? Our current fave pizzeria uses biodegradable ones that go into the food waste bin.

If the top of the box is debris free then kit is recycled in the paper bin, the underside always goes in the rubbish, simples.
