Couldn't you cycle to work, SDW?

That's what I did when my cam belt went last weekend.

£1.90 and they can't sell returns before 10, how stupid is that.

Judging by how your ABS worked, maybe you need to put air in the tyres or something. :p

I guess now's a good time to sort out those gear cables :-)

I can imagine that any repairs to your car would be fucking expensive, hope it's not too bad though.

The wife got caught in the localised flooding yesterday afternoon and the car stopped dead near the Naafi roundabout in Aldershot - near BurgerKing and the Library.

Result is the car needs a new engine - the old one only had done 29k.

Poor wife was stuck in the car with water pouring in it getting a little hysterical.

What colour is her car? I saw a yellow one pulled up around there yesterday. Aldershot was a complete mess last night, traffic wise, took me ages to get home.

That was probably it. Its a bright yellow Fiat. It happened about 16:20 and the car was still there until almost 21:00.

You're telling me! I thought it was bad in Ashford for surface water but getting home it was terrible on Ash Road. Plus a water main burst at the bottom of Waterloo road as well! Great timing.

I had thought about transit hiring but thought for a weekend it might have been pricey, hmm this may require more thought for the Rushmoor Massive!

If you are going to hire a transit then do it ASAP. Its one of the busiest weekends of the year for van hires. The place the wife got the hire car from this morning is almost booked out for this weekend.

We hired a transit size van from Kendall a few weeks ago. Very cheap and you can fit 3 people comfortably in the front. There is a free mileage limit but IIRC it does not cost a lot to up the limit. GForce in Aldershot are also worth a look.

I'd run next time you see her out shopping. Its the first decent car she has ever had and she is very upset.

I'm now fairly sure its something to do with the hydraulics, as the bite point has dropped right the the bottom of the travel on the pedal. Its also lost all resistance, and doesn't go into gear at all with the engine running. Its rather annoying because i saw it coming, but didn't know what it was, as i was driving around yesterday thinking 'oooh thats weird the clutch is dropping off, i hope my clutch isn't all fucked....'

But worst comes to worst i have a back up plan, and will try to nick a Fiat Multipla off my parents !

    It certainly stood out!

At least she was able to get it off the roundabout, though I don't think the police were too happy about the place she parked it.

My car broke down outside Farnborough airport and I was very paranoid that the police were going to blow it up or something.

It was the Police who moved it there. They had to tow her out as the engine is totally dead.

Water got sucked in via the air intake and the mechanic bloke said one things leads to another and basically the con-rod ends up sticking out the side of the engine. Apparently its quite common in floods.

Punto, the air intakes are very low - we thought until yesterday they were a decorative feature of the bumper.

Intakes are normally on the top right or left of the front - just behind the lights...

Are you sure that the bumper intakes aren't just to pass air over the brakes perhaps?

No idea, the mechanic said that they were the ones below the number plate: -

    http://www.autoweek.nl/forum/read.php?f=11&i=121814&t=121814

About a third of the way down the page is a yellow Punto.

The poor car has been written off. All it needs is a new engine and somehow its uneconomical to repair - even tho its worth between £5.5k and £6k.

Bastards. The wife is very upset.
