You'd have thought a new engine would be cheaper than a new car, wouldn't you?

    I'll never understand insurance companies.

No idea yet. They have to work out the value based on Glass's guide and 'local prices' and then offer us an amount based on that. Bit wierd that they know the value enough to write off the car.

I have already looked at Glass's guide and it seems to match the price of the cars on autotrader.

Fingers crossed that they don't piss us about.

New car for the wife is on its way. Nice little 2002 Fiat Stilo Abarth. 2.5 litre v6 which shifts a bit :)

I'm sort of tempted to learn to drive now so I can have a go.

Talk about a shitty time with transport.

First the wife drowns the car and it gets written off.

Then 6 months later ish, ie today, my bike has just been written off because its uneconomical to repair - crashed just before christmas.

Heh, sounds about right. I mean did you not KNOW that public transport is a priviledge not a right? This is the UK, and it's supposed to be run as a profit-making organisation - not to make your commute to work easier...!

Go figure this. For me to drive to work, and take a park and ride bus it costs me £38 a month.

To have a 40 minute walk to and from the bus to work, and to take a bus that stops short both ends it costs £40 a month.

    Bad luck, ssue.

I finally got rid of my broken down Clio last week. It'd been sat outside the house for the past 5 months because I assumed it'd take some effort and cost to get rid of.

40 minutes after ringing the council to find out what I should do about it, it was loaded on the back of a truck, about to be taken away. Didn't cost anything, either.

I'm sure there's a lesson to be learnt there.

Yes, ask the forum. There is an advert for someone who picks up any car and disposes of it for free in some of the local shops.

I just have to figure out whether it worth getting a new scooter as the valuation is not a lot and I need to get a new helmet and jacket as well.

There is this weird regulation now where it costs over a hundred quid to get a car scrapped because they have to be recycled. Not sure when it comes into action, some time this year I think.

Actually, the lesson was to get this sort of thing sorted out early, rather than waiting until the road tax is about to expire. I could have got upto £50 back if I'd got rid of the car back in August.

That's really crappy news ssuellid, probably not what you wanted to start your year with having to get a new ride.

With Spin's recent unfortunate accident I hope it's not catching!

When I scrapped my ZX there was about three months of tax left, I dutifully removed the disc, got a form and then realised I'd lost the bloody thing in the intervening time. Bollocks.

He lost the back end of the car and ended up in a ditch, he posted a thread with some photos of the SpinMobile's current state which I can't find now.

Nasty. That must have pushed his insurance cost up a bit (and he was already paying a lot).

Not really, he's only got (or had if it doesn't get back on the road and the damage was pretty extensive) 3PFT so he can't make a claim as no-one else was involved.

Bloody annoying I can't find the thread, it happened around Christmas.

Yup spanked it good and proper. Been busy car shopping to replace it, as i twisted the front end. Looking at a nice Celica GT4 Carlos Saintz.

    :D

Lostie, just to be difficult you probably could have made money out of it, as there is a someone local who still pays for scrap cars.

Heh, not entirely sure what caused it, but i reckon it was a blend of things. I had uber grippy tyres on the front and only normals on the rear, but where its a FR, i didn't think that would be too much of a problem. It was also really wet and horrible as i did it Christmas Eve, so there was probably also some grit around.

I was coming around a medium length but tightening bend, on and tilt, and the back end of my car suddenly lost all grip, and slid out about half way around. Fairly unusual for a front wheel drive ! I wasn't going that fast either, i'd been around that bend at those speeds in the wet before. I had no hope of correcting it, and went straight off the road, over the embankment.

Luckliy unscathed, but the car didn land perched over a ditch with the front and back on either sides, so as soon as i opened the door, and got out the car i fell into the bloody ditch.
