Been thinking about getting an iPod but realised I should probably get my own computer first. As my partner is so keen on Macs, I thought of getting an eMac as it is quite cheapish. Anybody have any experiences of them or advice as to what I should get instead? |

Registered 18 years agoI use an eMac and I love it! They're cheap as chips, mine was about £650 but they're cheaper now as far as I know. Never had any problems at all, it's a lovely little machine to use and I'd highly recommend it, especially for the price. Obviously a G5 would be nice but the eMac runs everything I need it to (Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc etc) just fine.
Word of warning though - You might see them with 128MB RAM and you ABSOLUTELY MUST buy more - it shouldn't be on sale at all with so little memory and will do absolutely feck all until you bump it up a bit. It uses PC133 SDRAM which you can buy for next to nothing anyway. -
eMacs are probably the best value in the mac range, but are fairly limited in terms of expansion/upgrades. The processor is soldered to the motherboard so can't be changed, and I'm not even sure how easy they are to open if you want to put a bigger HDD in.
