Registered 14 years agoBeen using the app for a few days now and am really impressed.
A couple of requests for v2 from me which I'm sure have probably been mentioned already.
-Swap auto refresh of the forum view with a button for manual refresh. Or a choice of the two.
-An interesting threads view would be awesome!
-Groups would be good - but I guess you're under the same limitations as the iPhone app on this.
-edit/quote options
Well done, Johnny! Keep up the good work

Registered 17 years agoHi,
The small screens/1.6 issue is quite annoying, I will be looking into this soon.
Force closing on looking up user info is not happening for me. I will try to make it break myself to determine what the problem is.
@Rutter: All good ideas. I am working on the edit/quote stuff now and will release an update once it is finished and working. The rest I will have a look at afterwards.
The app has over 400 downloads now... not bad. I hope everyone is getting something from it. It will only be getting better from this point onward. -

@JohnnyWashnGo; unless I've got the functionality wrong, a couple of questions:
1) After viewing images, is there any way within the app of purging the saved files located on your SD card? I noticed article images were being saved to the /Eurogamer folder (many directories down) and staying there.
2) When uninstalling the app, can you activate the button to delete the cache or whatever, so that the /Eurogamer folder on the SD card is removed.
A good app, but I've manually deleted the app and SD folder for the time being until I can be asurred that I can periodically flush the viewed images from the SD card from within the app. -

Registered 20 years agoGot the app on my newly arrived HTC Desire.
Couldn't find it by searching for "eurogamer" on the app marketplace, but the QR code on Johhny's website worked just fine.
Is it possible to follow links posted in the forum?
Also, does it always return to the first page of a thread when you change orientation? -

Oooh a desire - you lucky sod
Hope you are enjoying the phone.
As for your questions.
Can't follow links on forum just yet - its a pain to implement but I will have something working soon
Changing orientation and going back to first page is a bug... I will try to fix that for the next update. -

I forgot to congratulate you on the awesomeness of the app so far!
Good to see it'll be improving in the future too

It's great, and I have been using it. Very streamlined and especially good for reading the articles, and you can get a decent amount on each screen as well which makes it better than the standard mobile website.
On the downside unfortunately is that on my phone it's incredibly slow; just to log in and get onto the front page takes a good couple of minutes. Using Opera Mini I can see all that in less than a second. -

Thought I'd randomly search "Eurogamer" on my Galaxy and found this.
Excellent work, dude! So much easier than trying to view the site in the browser.

Registered 13 years agoGot it working on my Tattoo, though the sign in process is a pain since the sign in box didn't update with what I was typing. Once in though it works pretty well, though I had a couple of glitches with the forum going blank when I moved to a new page. Forum search or categories would be nice additions, but looking good so far. -

Ok folks, just to ease some of your pain with regard to the Android Market being a bit too controlling... I have put the app on my server temporarily.
To install it you will need to go into menu->settings->applications and check the box that lets you install apps from unknown sources.
Once you have done that:
If you have a barcode scanner installed, fire it up and point it at http://www.hidden-feature.com/eurogamer, scan the QRCode and the app should install for you.
If you don't have a barcode scanner, open a browser and head to http://www.hidden-feature.com/eurogamer/eurogamer.apk
I have not tested the app on a low resolution screen so tattoo owners may be in for a surprise
It will look sweet on the desire though
I'm off now - got some Lego Star Wars to build... and a stormtrooper with a shiny helmet!
Thanks, got the App via the Second link.
As a fellow Android dev - very nice App!
EDIT: So you know(if your interested) Im running it on the Motorola Dext -
Struggling to find this on my Desire. The barcode link above doesn't seem to work, and when I found it somewhere else (http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-hiddenfeature-eurogamer-ACmB.aspx) I just got a message on my phone saying there were no matches. -

Registered 17 years agoHey all,
Hows it going?
Hope the app is still running ok for you all.
I am working on some important updates to the app to add features requested by people in the last couple of months. Hopefully they will be finished soon... those of you who go the app from the Google market will know when their phone tells them an update is available. Those who had to get it from my server will know cos I will post a message here to let you know.
@Quickstick4: Thanks for the feedback. Glad you like it. I think I may have to take this Android coding lark full time soon... get some consultancy work or something
@kalel: Its good to hear you got it on your Desire. Hopefully it will be visible on the market for the newer phones soon.
As for the slowness of the app - I will try to look into speeding it up when I get a second.
Also, groups forum threads. I need to add these. I am looking into it.
Kinda looking into OpenGL ES 2.0 for Android 2.1 and up. Looks nice. Would like to do something with that soon. Anybody got any experience of it? -

Registered 17 years agoJust uploaded a small update to the app, nothing major, just trying to get the forums working a little better and also added a refresh button to the new and forum tabs. I really just wanted to test the updating mechanism .gif)
The new version is also on my server should you still not be able to see it on the market.
You should find that installing it is straightforward, but if it does have problems you may need to uninstall the old version and install the new version seperately.
Let me know if anything has broken

Registered 14 years agoIt would be awesome if it didn't take 2 minutes to load up the forum. Unusable on 3G due to speed.
Not to put you down though matey, bloody good work and I'm sure a fiddle will fix it (narf). -

Aye, I noticed the speed is a little naff on my old Hero. It flies like a rocket on my N1 if thats any consolation
I will take a look into the speed issue soon, just need more time. The parsing of the forums is pretty hairy stuff but I am sure I can squeeze a little more speed out if I try. -
