Registered 16 years agoSoz, went to have a look at this earlier and didn't find much.
tbh I'm assuming no, not having SP2 won't affect your performance.
I'd assume that if anything it'd be for .net and/or compatibility for the CCC. But is most likely just them wanting to make their support easier by simplifying the setups they recognize and support.
They are probably working on the fact that that's where MS are heading with XP and that more and more people are going SP2 and will be pretty much forced to eventualy.
Which drivers are you using? If it's the latest with CCC from ATI's site try the latest ones with the CP instead.
Or just ditch them all and go with Omegas latest, though possibly hold off as he is due another release soon.
This is all speculation from me though, the only way to be sure is to bench your current set up, take a back up/system restore point, install SP2 and bench again. -

Registered 16 years agoNo worries.
Now can you just stop bloddy buying new gfx cards and tempting me in to an early upgrade!!
(on a more serious note though, i would be interested to hear your thoughts on this new card and the others you've tried from this gen) -

Registered 16 years agojust tried to install the latest catalyst drivers on my laptop which is equipped with a ati mobility 9700.
I've got some dodgy texture issues in City of Heroes, so i thought i'd try updating them.
When i try to install them though it says that it can't find the video driver and that i should try installing a standard vga driver first?!
so i'm a little stumped.
Any suggestions? -

Registered 16 years agoRight, i tried the omega drivers and they worked ok.
sadly they didn't fix the problems i'm getting with CoH...
I've stuck a screenshot here with an example of what i get.
Can anyone make any suggestions about what's caused this, or how i can fix it? -

Registered 16 years agoAh I wondered what the CoH texture problem was with Radeons but never had it happened while I played the beta with my 9800Pro.
Anyway looking through the Rage3D forums there appears to be a solution by using an older version of the OpenGL dll, couldn't find the exact solution but if you dig through it maybe you'll find it. -

I haven't seen anything specificaly mentioned about this game in the last couple of driver releases but early word from the DH forums seem to be that the new 5.2 Cats are giving better OpenGL performance. So it might be worth trying them out. -

Yeah they're getting good feedback over at DH, which is good as the 5.1's seemed to have been pretty bad, espec after the 4.12's being so good. It seems ATi are back on track and i'm even hearing that the CCC is finaly getting better. -

It's really odd. My main pc has a 9700, and the laptop has a mobility 9700, so i can't imagine there would be much difference in the two, but i don't get this problem at all on the main pc, only the laptop.
I'll install these new drivers to see if they fix it at all. -

Registered 16 years agoAh that may make a difference. Never used it myself but laptop users over at DH seem to talk about this a lot in relation to laptop mobility cards.
I think it's something to do with modding drivers to install onto mobility cards. Not sure exactly why it's needed but it may be worth reading up on it.
