So. . . I am looking to get myself a racing wheel, but have no idea whatsoever what hardware is any good. What would be the wheel of choice these days? Preferably one that works both on the PS3 and the PC. (In case they don't do that anyway) |

There seem to be a lot of CSR models though ranging from expensive to ridiculous in price. Anything I should keep in mind? At what price point do the wheels become decent and when do I start to pay for the name? -

I've finally moved into a place where I have space for a wheel so want to pick one up, it seems they've actually gotten rarer and more expensive with time though, and not too keen on picking up a used one on ebay.
I guess there'll be a bunch of new ones announced for GT6, should probably stay patient... -

Registered 17 years agoI second the Fanatec CSR. Works with both PC, PS3 and 360. Wirelessly on the 360 even.
The precision is outstanding and the force feedback is incredible. In Forza 4 even small things like driving over road stripes can be felt. It really is worth the money if you play a lot of driving games. -

Registered 9 years agoI have had 3 wheels and I have used them all at some point for a large amount of time.
Logitech Driving Force Pro.
Slow/Weak/Small/Loud, Don't bother with this. Really, don't.
Logitech Driving Force GT
Massive step up on the DFP. Quicker, stronger, far more definition in what you feel. Much quieter and enjoyable to use.
I'd recommend this if you want a simple very easy to use wheel that is near enough perfect for any racing game.
It also only costs about £100, so it's reasonably affordable too. I've had mine for 3 years now and not a single thing is wrong with it.
Thrustmaster T500RS
Recently got this one. Quite honestly it's not a gigantic step up from the DFGT, but it does everything better. The pedals are much better than those of the DFGT and the FFB is so much stronger. The wheel is quieter too.
Personally I'd recommend the Driving Force GT. It's easily the best price / performance wheel. It will last ages, FFB is well defined and there are plently of buttons on it. -

Registered 14 years agoAnother recommendation for the CSR (with Elite Pedals + H Shifter + stand), I got a bundle which was well worth it if they still do it.
I went through 3 wheels originally (1 bricked, 2nd DOA) and am now on 2nd power supply but still willing to recommend as Fanatec support have been superb. With each wheel they sent a new wheel before I returned the dead one and then arranged a courier to pick up the 2 dead wheels. Just recently I sent a video to support showing my power supply had died, emailed on Sunday, new power supply arrived Wednesday, not bad for Germany to UK.

Registered 13 years agoJust had a T150 delivered (£115 from Amazon) but then saw Currys had a 10% off deal, bringing the G29 down to £162. Overall it seems like the more high end product so I've got that arriving tomorrow. Hoping I can give them both a quick try and return whichever I like less...
Anyone tried both? -

Registered 15 years agoNot tried both of them but bought a g29 last Christmas to replace my dfgt and very happy with it. Much quieter and doesn't rattle like the dfgt (although that may be age related). Brake pedal on the g29 is like a real brake as opposed to a 'flap' with no resistance. Have heard good things about the t150 but got the g29 as comparisons put the g29 ahead. -

Particularly the pedals. It just looks much more of a premium product too. Will see how both feel (not sure I can get away with returning one if I actually hook them up for a proper go). -

Reading around lots of reviews it seems fairly close, better pedals on the G29 but better force feedback on the T150. For similar price the 29 might take it with the pedals, but not sure it's worth extra 50. Also not sure I can bring myself to pay 160 when it was 130 7 days ago! -

Registered 13 years ago@IJ I haven't actually plugged the T150 in for a proper go, as the clamp is in a sealed polythene bag and I don't know if I'd be able to return it if I open it. But just based on the feel of the wheel and pedals it's definitely way more budget than the G29.
Have played a bit of Assetto Corsa on the G29 (no sealed bags!) and it feels good. I probably need to adjust some of the settings, but the force feedback is definitely a bit, I don't know, notchy. You can feel the cogs. It's definitely nicer overall though, the pedals are great (brake is *really* stiff in the last 30% or so of its travel), the leather on the wheel feels nice. Just feels more premium materials than the T150.
Really curious to check the force feedback on the T150, possibly enough to risk breaking that bag open...

Registered 6 years agoThe notchy feedback is the main complaint of the logitech wheels apparently. The Thrustmaster will be a lot smoother but yeah the T150 is supposed to feel pretty budget in everything but ffb.
Basically stop flirting with it and get a T300. -

Registered 13 years agoIt's another £90 on top of the G29 and (based on the T150's pedals which are apparently basically the same) another £80 for good pedals. Just can't justify it.

I think I'm going to go with the T150 and save some money. I don't really care about the budget feel. I would really really like a better brake pedal, but then if the FFB is smoother with the T150, I think I'll just save myself £50. I can always buy the premium pedals for the 150 for £75 later if it really bothers me and I'll end up with a wheel around the same price but with better FFB and similar pedals (but still a more budget feel).
Don;t think there is a right answer on this one. I just wish I'd snapped the G29 up when it was £130 10 days ago!

Registered 13 years agoYou know what, I actually unwrapped the T150 last night and gave it a go - and I'm still unsure as to which to stick with. One thing I'll say, based on very brief testing - the pedals don't really matter. The T150's seem fine in use. It's noisier than the G29 and the rubber grip on the wheel isn't as comfortable. But then it's £50 cheaper.
Edit - on the flip side though, I didn't really find the T150's force feedback any better or worse.
And now the T300 is down to £230...

Registered 6 years agoYeah your not going to get feedback on the brakes on anything for PS4. The little rubber thing in the T3PA pedals does a decent job of faking it though. Oh and Drive club is pretty awful with a wheel. -

Registered 20 years agoBought a T150 yesterday. Waiting for it and the parts for my Wheel stand pro to get delivered and will report back. Would have gone with the G29 if it was still at £130, but can't justify £160 when I got the 150 for £110 (box.co.uk).
I had the official 360 whee before and that was even cheaper and was fine for what I want it for. -
