Didn't give two poops about the royal wedding until today. Everyone is off for it, and the fiancée is at home in England and they are having a street party. Something I thought was ridiculous at first but now I'm a bit annoyed I don't get to go. Sounds like it would be nice. ![]() Instead I'll be working all day and night. |

Might and Magic beating perchance?
Irrespective, he is a complete and utter bastard. I'll be around in a bit if you fancy beating me to ease your anger?

Registered 15 years agoJust out of interest, what would you say the percentage is of people who'd like to get rid of Monarchy in the UK?
I have this impression it's terribly low... -

Registered 13 years agoI'd say it's higher than you think. I watched something a few years back where they did a survey and over 50% said to fuck em off. That was at least five years back to be fair though. -

Registered 14 years agoKind of silly really when they generate shit loads of revenue for tourism and all that. I dont relaly care for them but I do see the obvious benifits of having them around. -

Registered 15 years agoReally?
I honestly thought that traditional values meant they were omni-loved or something 50% is incredibly high...
Any political parties ever say they oppose monarchy? Or would that be treason or something? -

Registered 15 years agoAbout the tourism revenue, I hear that a lot (I lived in a country with a queen where supporters would say the same thing) but surely if monarchy would be abolished it wouldn't change anything?
It's not like you tear the palace down or anything?...I'd think the tourists come for the buildings and heritage rather than knowing that behind a fence, behind a large garden, behind a guard, behind a wall, behind some rooms there could be a queen?
Besides she'd still be there, just not paid for by the state and without power?
I'm not sure about this obviously, no idea if you pay taxes for her upkeep or anything like that... -

Registered 14 years agoThey have no power and the goverment took most of their land off them.
Apparently people do care about the faces as 20million people are supposed to be watching it!
Ive told people other Eu countrys like spain and denmark have kings and queens but nobody seems to care about that!
Im not sure we do pay taxes for their upkeep or if its that we do but then they generate more than we give which offsets it by a huge margin? Im no expert thats for sure!
Also I shoudl really go do some work instead of talking about stuff I dont really care about D: meh. -

It was a survey by whichever newspaper is generally against them (might have been the Guardian or the Mail) -

Registered 15 years agoFair enough, I thought they still had some political power or something...
I know the Dutch pay for upkeep of their royal family even though they have marginal power...Hell even here in Italy we have royal family, but we're not paying for them and they're hardly recognised anyway (mainly because we exiled them after WWII for abandoning the people, we let them in again about a decade ago)...
And 20 million viewers does not make something right
otherwise in some countries the Big Brother contestants should be made royals...
Anyway, didn't want to start anything here, just curious... -

fwiw, parliament is the queens government voted in by the people. the monarchy has been reformed, but has lost none of the power/influence it had before. dispite the haters wanting the monarchy gone. -

Aside from the fact that she is duty-bound not to interfere in politics, of course. -

Registered 13 years agoThis is my last hurrah weekend, it was a very good start. Now I am gingerly cleaning my house in anticipation of it's ruination by party tomorrow, then off to the cinema to see Submarine and more of the same most likely. From next weekend, I'm putting such pleasures behind me, so I had better make the most of it. -

Registered 13 years agoTook my son and daughter to an Aquarium today. It was pretty good. They had a good selection of fish and Sharks and one of them tunnels where your surrounded in fish. I sullied it a bit at one point when I saw my lad arsing with a sweet machine. I walked up behind him and started tussling his hair and asked what he was doing. Wasn't until he turned around I realized it wasn't my son but some other little boy. I didn't know what to say so I just turned and shot off. Im probably gonna be on Crimewatch next week for attacking children. -
