More to do with Star Wars as a whole rather than TFA.

Does it still lean on the "omg he's a psycho killer" gag?

I have high hopes for the forthcoming Jabba the Hutt weight loss movie.

For me the psychopath shtick is often funny, but it doesn't really feel that necessary. The reviews are perfectly fine without gimmicks imo.

Exactly. I think the reviews are brilliant and the "omg LOL he's a rapist" just detract. Especially on repeat viewings. I thought about doing a directors cut where I cut all that crap out.

It reminds me of Film Critic Hulk, who takes (mostly) good film criticism and adds a "character" to it, with allcaps and talking about himself in the third person. You know, like The Hulk!

It's cute, but not cute enough to be repeated again and again.

Fwiw, I also skip the skits that bookend episodes of Half in the Bag. It's not what I watch Red Letter Media stuff for.

I think the short snippets lighten it up a bit, probably better than going on about the movies nonstop imo. Plus, nothing wrong with getting to know the person behind the review a bit so you can relate to him and learn he's a guy just like you and me. I mean, few people complain when EG reviewers throw in something personal in here and there, except when it's Ellie going on and on about her sex life instead of writing something about the topic at hand.

Rey and Ren swapping roles is what I've been hoping for since I watched it

It certainly seems possible. Rey nearly goes over the edge at the end, and the ren angle is the well trodden route.

I just watched this now. It takes like 45 minutes for him to actually talk about TFA, and he spends half of that rambling about diversity and how it's a good thing but most people don't care about it and we shouldn't care that much about it either so here how about we talk about it for another 15 minutes. I kind of lost track after a while.

He made some good points, but imo it felt a great deal less cohesive than his prequel reviews.

I tried watching it but got stuck on his non-take on the "Circular Narrative" hot-take. Way too much of him faffing about trying to be funny. Way too little of what made the original reviews good.

    3/10

I enjoyed it enough but I went in not expecting it to be a patch on the original reviews. It's hard to capture that same sort of interest when it's about a film that is actually pretty good.

I just thought it was a bit wishy-washy, particularly in the bits about the diverse cast. Like he didn't really know what to say, so just decided to play it safe and not rock the boat too much. Which is funny, because playing it safe is one of the major criticisms he seemed to have about the film.

I liked it but it didn't need to be that long. The circle stuff about the 6 Lucas films dragged on, but then again I enjoyed that he was tearing millennials a new one for trying to tell us the prequels aren't that bad, because fuck that noise. Interesting pot and kettle take on the "nostalgia" argument, considering millennials would have grown up with the prequels.

Oh god, imagine if your childhood SW memories were of Jar Jar and rough sand.

I'm assuming not, but is the new blade runner review safe to watch at all for someone who hasn't seen it?

Yeah they always warn of upcoming spoilers in Half in the Bag episodes. I find I enjoy the episodes far more when I've watched the film in question anyway.
