If it was auto erotic asphyxiation then he died an accidental, and pleasurable, death. Weighing it up against being so troubled that he took his own life it would give us comfort. I feel terrible about my choice of words earlier.

I think again it's important to remember that mental health problems are nothing to do with being rational. "Reasons to live" don't have anything to do with it. An illness took him much like cancer or a heart attack, and it's equally unpreventable.

A bit morbid, but kinda curious as to why people would hope it wasnít suicide. Whatís a better alternative? Not looking to pick a fight or anything, I just really donít understand the sentiment.
Because there's something so desperate and lonely about it? And maybe it's seen as something that could've been prevented?

I'm also guessing that some people might think if the likes of Chris Cornell can find no reason to live, then what the fuck do us peasants have?

(I'm of the same opinion BTW, one way or another the chap has left this world, the "how" for me is neither here nor there).
Yeah pretty much this. I stressed out a bit when i first read it was suicide. At his shows/his bands shows he comes across as immensely likeable, articulate, surprisingly funny, and bright person. He comes across as nothing other than positive and on top of his game. With other artists you kind of had a sense of something bad happening - kurt , Layne, winehouse etc sadly left an unfolding drama behind them. This feels completely out of the blue. Obviously Mental health lurks behind a facade but.. yeah. Just shocked.

Obviously when you read his lyrics you know he has his demons. Just surprised..shocked that if it is suicide, it is him.

Such a shame. Thought he had an amazing voice.

Apparently no-one had a clue he was even depressed. even his wife didn't have a clue and thinks he wasn't suicidal?

Well you wouldnt want it to be suicide because you'd then assume the individual was fairly miserable in the final period of their life.

If it was a sudden heart attack or unknown medical condition, or hit by a car, well, at least you might have been happy.

If you kill yourself you're obviously in a lot of pain.

The how and why seems a bit like rubbernecking. Him being dead is bad enough.

I guess the flip side is he was in pain and now he's at peace.

It doesn't really warrant the discussion. It's tragic whichever way you look at it. I was just interested in the reasoning.

That's pretty common. Depression isn't always obvious.

The news has been on my mind all day. It's really sad to realise that he felt like he couldn't work through it and get help. Depression doesn't give a fuck about your fame, your fortune, race, gender or religion.

Probably time to rename thread, maybe to just Soundgarden, anyway new and hauntingly beautiful song just been released called:
    "when bad does good"

Also Chris Cornell retrospective out in November.
