Here's my Africa set. All of these (apart form the dragonfly) were taken with the Tamron 18-270 I mentiioned, and they're not the sharpest as a result (also largely down to most of them being taken at long lengths from moving boats/jeeps - excuses excuses...).
I still think on balance I was better off with that than having a 50mm on all the time though. -

Registered 20 years agoI found this great (but long) video linked from Gizmodo which shows how lenses are made, and you can see why they are so expensive! -

As do I.
Apparently the 55-250mm has turned up as well now. Wasn't expecting that today, bonus! Still no sign of the camera, and still saying back-order. Going to call them now and demand a courier tracking number. -

Registered 19 years agoWell there you go. Put the 55-250 and 50mm together and you will have a pair of binoculars. -
Won't back-order mean that they don't have any in stock? To be honest I wouldn't be placing orders like that with Jessops considering the rumours at the moment. If I were you I would cancel it and buy from elsewhere, unless they have already taken your order? -

Nice photo's!
I've never tried them but anyone that's on a budget, you can always buy extension tubes to increase the focal length of your lens. Obviously it won't have the same image quality as a new lens but it's worth considering. -

Yup, but it's cheapest there. Back-order to me means they haven't any in stock as well, but they say it just means anything other than dispatched. And I just called them to ask for a tracking number since it still says back-ordered and I didn't believe they'd sent it, they gave me a DHL number that was last tracked leaving my local depot at 7.30 this morning and is out for delivery! -

My beard used to be bigger than that, anyway. -

Here's hoping. Hopefully it won't need a battery charging for a day first. -

How coincidental, I spent yesterday afternoon taking loads of detail 50mm shots around the studio, using the in-camera B&W mode and am currently fiddling with getting a nice wee gallery up on my WP blog. Love that lens. -
Right I'm going to head out with the nifty fifty later today having been inspired by the thread. And I've joined the club with a 50mm Flickr Set too. -

Registered 19 years agoExcellent! One of the techs at my work has arrived today with a brand new 500D, it really is a nice little camera and surprisingly well put together (in comparison with the 350D and a falling apart 400D which other mates had/have). -

Nowt wrong with the build quality of the 350D! Mine's still going strong and it's had a hard life so far...

You guys all playing with your new cameras are making me feel guilty. I haven't even taken a worthwhile shot with my new 35mm prime yet

Registered 12 years agoHe may mean the slight creakiness of the 350D due to the all-plastic body. When I upgraded to my 30D it felt like it was carved of granite in comparison (magnesium internal chassis I believe). -

Which one is that, mal?
I've been looking at the DX version of Nikon's 35mm f/1.8 which has been getting decent reviews, and is a good price.
Anyone here have one?
