I pitted a 5d m2 vs a 7d and the 5dm2 lost entirely because it doesn't have a flash. Harsh...

Yes I don't think you can take the winner/loser bit too seriously, but as a spec comparison it's quite handy.

It seems to ignore sensor size/pixel density, which I'm led to believe is fairly important.

Yes, they're in the specs, but appear to play no part in the actual guidance comparison.

Someone asked what the temperature was in the office last week. I realised they were all looking at me expectantly. I twigged what they were after, but had to say "Sorry, there is no app for that"......

I think the comparison thing is a good engine, I like it.
