Exactly! Shame the official case is ridiculously expensive. I've seen a few third party ones I like the look of though. -

Registered 10 years ago@yegon To enable picture in picture mode without consuming a lot of resources, I guess it is limited to H264 video with AAC audio, as this is what the device has hardware decoders for. Infuse however plays all kind of formats, which make intensive use of the processor (=software decoders) I'd imagine.
Can't see a reason why they couldn't enable it just for those videos that are in the appropriate format. -

Registered 18 years agoYeah, but like you say, let's hope the H264 stuff is eventually allowed. Most of the stuff I play with Infuse are mkv's remuxed to mp4's. I remux them to play on my old PS3 anyway so use the same files on my iPad, on the assumption that the remuxed mp4 is likely a bit gentler on the iPad's battery than the mkv thanks to hw decoding. -

Registered 15 years agoJust bought The Martian book from the iBook store however, the cover art is missing in my library? It's just showing as a blank page with the name of the book. The real cover was showing in the store. Any suggestions? -

Registered 16 years agoDid a stealth upgrade to the iPad mini four, and it's utterly brilliant...
The screen is noticeably better in terms of colours and reflectivity.
But really the game changer is the RAM, I can now even surf safari, play hearthstone, open bet fair but the next day when I open the videos app it's still got my recently played video in memory and I just hit play.
The side by side multitasking and PIP modes are also lovely. -

Registered 16 years agoThe Moonlight app officially launched on IOS today. It's been on Android and jailbreak for a while.
It emulates Nvdia Gamestream and allows you to play games from your Steam library. Some of my games are officially supported by gamestream, those that aren't you can still play be going through the steam app in Moonlight.
I've tested it on a few games and works really well. And it's FREE! -

Registered 10 years agoPencil seems excellent, so does palm rejection. You can also use fingers and and pencil at the same time, according to Ars Technica:
The iPad is excellent at recognizing the pencil’s input and separating it from other input, whether it’s rejecting your palm (or your entire arm) or simply differentiating the pencil from your fingers. For instance, place two fingers on the screen at once in the Notes app to pull up the straight-edge tool. You can then use your fingers to angle it however you want and use the pencil to draw a straight line without lifting your fingers from the screen.

Same here. If the Pencil is low latency and the pressure sensitivity works half as well as my Cintiq I'll be getting one. Cordless pressure sensitive drawling tablet? Yes please.

I like iPads and would not like to be without one, but I believe it can only be a complete laptop replacement if you're purely a cloudy, social media, reading, consuming, light input type of user. Which is fine, it applies to huge swathes of people, but I'd find it horribly limiting if it was the only device I had.
I dont understand how that cover keyboard thing is supposed to help it replace a laptop. How could you use it on your lap? Wouldn't the keyboard cover thing go all floppy without a solid flat surface beneath it?
iPads have replaced laptops full time as my on the go and travel device though, in terms of speed, convenience (cellular), weight and battery longevity they're ace. The only people who irritate me are the nerdier ones amongst us who champion it as a complete replacement, and then proceed to explain the ridiculous workarounds and accessories they need to achieve this, completely negating all the advantages of tablets. To those people I can only say, get a feckin' laptop.
Having said that, quite a few reviews of the Pro have commented that it works slightly better on the lap than Surface Pros due to the way it holds together, with the caveat that you wouldn't want to do it for extended periods and lack of palm rests is killer.

It absolutely doesn't, at least, from a hardware point of view. You need to get the i5 powerd (500 USD more expensive) Pro 4 to beat the iPad Pro.
