Never played the 1st one so Iím dead excited by this. Loved the 2nd one so much and this will be my 3rd play through, once I get it.

I reckon I might make this one of my 10 this year. I hold Shenmue in very high esteem.
Me neither. My Xbox got nicked too. Always wanted to go back....been enjoying Yakuza, but I prefer the walking about to the fighting random gangs every 30 seconds.

Because of the Sony money for the PS4 version you won't here about that until after launch. Will likely happen though, Yu teased it as while back.

I think there's a reason you both didn't finish it, namely that 2 isn't as good as 1.

It's massive, but loses a lot imo. Recently replayed both. There's something glorious about the small town, slice of life that is missed in 2. It's still great, but there's something lost by not being able to interact with your surroundings as much. You can go into a lot of shops etc but you can't do fuck all, most of the NPCs have the same reactions to dialogue, mini games are largely the same (all the new ones are basically variations of gambling, which is shit).

Love them both but (IMO before some pedant calls me out), 1 is far superior despite being more limited in scope.

I'm still going to replay them with the new control scheme because the original controls are horrible and few dreamcasts actually work anymore.

It's a shame they're not full remasters or HD upgrades but I'm not that arsed. The graphics were amazing for the time but I don't really see what impact on the gameplay it would have at this point.

Edit: just to add on my larger point, I think Shenmue 3 will benefit if it has a smaller setting and scope and I'd be excited if it was more to scale to the first game than the sequel.

Honestly, I'm quite glad they've barely been touched visually. As you said above, it's getting harder to find a working Dreamcast (and some won't even load from the discs properly, like my replacement machine), so I'm glad I get to experience them again in as close to their original form as possible.

If it were easier to replay the originals, I might be tempted to say it's a low-effort job, but honestly I'm just really chuffed they're getting a re-release either way.

At least we'll have 1 & 2 HD to tide us over.

    Just saw this :(

I thought with 1&2 now announced the release would be more concrete but clearly that's not the case.

Like Zomoniac says though, 1&2 will tide me over.

The remasters (technically) have nothing to do with 3 though.

Probably need more time to work on the facial animation.

It's not a surprise to me. They've barely shown any of the game and not said much. The kickstarter updates don't give much away either.

Another year doesn't really matter considering we've all waited 15 years thus far for a sequel. I'm still just really happy we're going to get it.

Gives me time to finishing the upcoming HD releases of 1 and 2.

Hurry up and announce the official release date for it too, Sega!

Wasn't it originally a Dec 2018 date? I think even the most optimistic of fans would've felt 2019 was a best case scenario.

Would be nice to see a little more of the game at E3 but suspect that this announcement is to head off any expectations of seeing gameplay footage.

    Let's hope it's a Q2 2019 launch...

As others have said, I can wait another year. What's one more at this point?

And with the remasters still not having a date, I was a little concerned that I wouldn't have time to replay I and II before III launched, so that's actually kind of handy in that sense.

I never expected to see this in 2018 (especially since that haven't shown too much of it yet), but don't mind the wait

The Shenmue Experience is all about waiting!

Would be slightly tempted by a replay of Shenmue 2 in the meantime though (played through the first a few times over the years)

    @Zomoniac

Was it really? Well that was a ludicrously ambitious target.

I'm relaxed about the wait, but hope they get a Q1/Q2 release.
