Superman Returns was pretty majestic, but badly flawed.

Derblington, why do you say I'm jumping the gun? I haven't enjoyed one of his films and it's no secret that when it comes to characterisation in his films, he's left somewhat lacking. Sure, he can direct spectacle and bombast, but that's about it, IMO.

Superman 1 and 2 were brilliant films anyway.

Look at Leterrier, before and after The Incredible Hulk. Sometimes people just "get" the characters.

Yup, I agree with the Hulk comment derb.

Plus, with both Snyder's previous films he's been working from material, and has made a pretty damn good translation of them onto film. This would be his first project not already based on a specific comic.

Snyder has a bucket of talent and a good eye. He makes great entertainment, imo, he can clearly follow material successfully (as Cosmic points out, so he should be able to "do" Supes) and he has Nolan on hand for any assistance. The story isn't his, not that I'd necessarily have issue if it was, but all he has to do is convert that onto film with adequate pacing and spectacle. He's proven that he's capable of doing that.

I think he'll be fine. And as I said before, it can't be worse than 3, 4 or 5. But then I like his films to date....

Snyder isn't a bad choice at all, he gets blowback from 300 but I thought Watchmen was a pretty good adaptation (as good as you could do with the restrictions). He can do action at least and as said, it will be a metric fuckton better than Returns.

Only red flag: if they try and do a re-boot / origin story.

Everyone knows who Superman is, Green Lantern? yeah sure, Superman? fuck no.

Make him early 30's and ffs not "Lex! Kryptonite!"

I think they should just go with Doomsday story. It's probably the best one there is.

Yeah I do hope they don't do another origin story. If it has to be in there, do it Incredible Hulk style.

What's with that court case with Jerry Seigal btw? Did he win back the rights to the origin? Meaning Warner can't show them again?

Noone ever mentions Dawn of the Dead.
Good action, funny and lovely cinematography without slo-mo.

I think Snyder's a good choice. This won't be a blue screen cgi fest.

I don't have any problem with Snyder, with a good script he'll do well. I'm more worried about Nolans involvement, Christopher NoFun.

I know what you mean, "no superpowers in Batman lol" really put a dampner on the idea of setting up a JLA movie the way Marvel did it with the Avengers.

DC have said that they aren't doing any crossovers the way that Marvel have been.

Are you familiar with the work of Zack Snyder? I dont think he has ever shot a scene of a physical set.

Not that its a bad thing. He does action and fantasy very well, which is something superman needs if audiences are to stay awake through this one.

At least they can distance the occasionally good films away from the potential turd that will be Green Lantern and the new Wonder Woman tv show.

That's a strange question. I've already mentioned Dawn of the Dead! That isn't blue screen, and looks fantastic in HD to boot.

Nolan has already stated his wish to have this set in a more 'real world' like bb and TDK, hasn't he? They really wouldn't want to pigeonhole supes, especially if they ever get a JLA movie off the ground.

The JLA just isn't going to work without a reboot of all the main characters into a more shallow retard friendly format like the marvel films. I don't think we'll see many kids running around pretending to be batman after watching a nolan film.

The point is that snyder would be a decent choice specifically because he does work so much with cgi and, specifically, fantasy. Superman deserves a chance to fly across the galaxy and punch through a planet, not moon over lois lane and butt heads with lex luthor again.

Seem to be a lot of people thinking Zod will be involved. I hope not myself. Been done and won't be beaten.

Now it's a question of casting. I know Natalie Portman is a strong contender for Lois. I'm a bit mixed about that to be honest.

As for Supes? For me, Ryan Renolds! That would be just fucking weird. Green Lantern, Deadpool and Supes. But it won't be.

You cant get much more retard friendly than the JLA. They are the lamest superteam on earth and would make a terrible movie.

You would either have to make it camper than to wong foo or go home.

Justice League International would work as it's full of b/z-listers and batman is only an overseer in it rather than a full time member. It's also funny and quite sedate in the old cosmic team battle way. But it's more soap than movie material. Perfect project for a Stiller(beetle) + Owen Wilson(booster) piece of shit. Also has a midget.

I want to see Supes punch someone into the sun, or pick up a building and smack someone with it. Give him an enemy he can really brawl with!

You can tell a lot about the quality of a man by his enemies.

I can reel-off a bunch of A-list Spider-man villains, yet I'm struggling to name three Superman villains that aren't shit.

Move on, no more nods to originals.

I guess the rumour of Zod means a good old battle which people probably want to see rather than, I'm acting like Christopher Reeve in a homage to 80s Superman films.

I think Brandon Routh deserves another chance at playing supes, his acting has come along way since returns and i think he is the perfect choice.

So, First Showing says this isn't a complete reboot at all and has some continuation from the Donner film:

"Not many details are known about the project besides the fact that they need to get it going by 2012 before they lose the rights and that it will have some sort of connection to the Richard Donner Superman series of the past."

    http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/10/04/zack-snyder-chosen-to-direct-nolans-new-superman-movie/

    Confusing.

It would be funny if they actually had him in the present day or thereabouts but continued on from the Donner films so time has passed, Lois is old or dead, he no longer works for the Daily Planet and is just Superman or puts on old man make up. I wonder if they would even try that.

I was giggling like such a loon at his "Mwah ha ha" in Chuck that I think I might be gay for him now.
