Bring on next year and an assault on a sub 3 time.
    Wow..
Immensely impressive. I can but dream.

Great result Saucy. Now, what's next? ;) Having a rest or do you have any more races lined up ?

I've just started running again after taking a whole month off. Looking forward to some night-time trail running (picked up a Petzl RXP lamp).

Cheers guys, still buzzing about it. I've got this thread to thank for getting me into running to start with.

    /group hug

Legs seem to be recovering nicely so will head out later to run the final 0.3 miles I need to finish this months challenge.

    Crikey!

I've only ever done one marathon, and I didn't even break 3.5hrs. 3hrs10 is only a few minutes shy of qualifying for the Boston, amazing work sir!

Hey chaps - i can't find the official 'running' thread (I'm sure there was one) so I thought I'd ask in here.

Could I please get a few recommendations for small/light rucksacks that are suitable for jogging? I'm looking to lock away the bicycle over the icy months - I'm thinking that running will be fun BUT I'll still need to lug a few things in with me (change of clothes, keys etc).

@caligari Sportshoes have one of the fancy Salomon packs on sale for £45 at the moment although I don't think it is the top of the line one.

Decathlon, at least over here in France, have just come out with a Salomon imitation which is in their trail running range. It was so cheap, at about £20, I bought one without thinking as I couldn't bring myself to buy the top of the range Salomon. The Decathlon one is really well made, loads of features, pockets, pouches, cinch ties, etc. A big outer pocket to stuff a light rain jacket and an expandable inner pocket for your gear. I'm really happy with it although I'll just be using a Camelbak reservoir as the one you get with it is a bit rubbish (although I was amazed they included one at all at that price).

These type rucksacks are great for running as they are designed to be low profile and keep the weight and bulk of your gear close to your body. They also do up a bit like a waist coat, so they fit really well to avoid the feeling of having a massive pack bouncing around on your back

    Happy New Year Nike+ers

Well I have foolishly signed up to my first Marathon in October. After 4 halfs last year I thought I would put myself through even more hell.

Still can't believe it will have been 3 years in may since I took part in my first 10k.

    Any beginners tips?

I'll be doing a 10k then 2 half Marathons in March and June before going into Full marathon Training does this seem ok?

Any other first timer training tips?

Slow to answer but your plan sounds good to me.

For my 1st Marathon I did as many half's in training as I could and then just stretched out the long runs in July , Aug and Sept. I did one big one a month adding a couple of miles to each one. My last one was a full 26m but most would suggest peaking at 22 ish I think.
I just think you need to reach and then get through the "wall" before the big day.

Im doing a marathon the same day although not the same one.

I've entered the Glencoe Marathon - all mountain trail. Should be fun !

Also I'm afraid that I've moved away from Nike + since Christmas.
Got myself a new Garmin watch so the Nike GPS watch has been retired. Don't think I can be bothered to export my runs from Garmin and import them into Nike so that's probably the end of me in the monthly challenges.

The reason for the change is a good way to show the power of this little group/thread. From my first wobbly 1k in this thread I'm now finding that the 8 hour battery life on my Nike watch isn't enough. I've entered Ultras /Endurance events this year that will be approx 9, 10 and 24 hours of running so I needed a new watch with a longer battery life. Staggering to think of the change in just a few years !

As ever thanks to you all for the support and encouragement.

Gurgy, it's a piece of piss to to export to Nike+ with this site, just copy your latest run id in. Been doing that for over a year now.

I actually use a bunch of sites (Fetcheveryone, Strava, Endomondo, Runners World Runhub & Nike+) for different reasons, though Nike+ is the only one I have to link each time, the rest update automatically when I sync my Garmin.

Actually, that site's not working at the mo', but should apparently be fixed by the 12th...

Not sure if it'll sort itself out, but my monthly total in the challenge has ballsed up at the moment. Nike updated the app to sync with Garmin Connect, which is all well and good, but as ever with the Nike site, it isn't working properly at the moment. Tonight's 10k run registered as 45km for some reason. I've deleted it and added manually, but the challenge still seems to be registering the incorrect distance. It also managed to miss my half marathon from the weekend, not sure if it's trying to make up for it when it syncs or something, but the numbers still don't add up...

I've linked my Garmin account to Nike now and tonight's run synced across fine.

So my Nike stats are now just missing my runs for Jan through to today.

The android app is sooo slow to boot up and load your mileage these days. It's comically bad just now.

At least my runs are syncing ok though!

Haha, today's 30km run logged on the Nike site as over 350km! I guess somewhere in the background it's totaling up all my other non Nike+ runs and adding them together. I've asked for help on their Facebook page as they usually seem pretty good at sorting this sort of thing out.

Apologies if it's arsed up this months challenge, but I think Gurgy had already won it. I'll not enter another until the problem's solved.

We all use the general 'Running' thread these days, but as seen as this is where it all began for me, it seems better suited to the Nike+ thread!

Achieved my ultimate running ambition at the weekend, the sub 3 marathon with a 02:58:58 at Manchester. 18 months hard work and a time to be proud of.

Well done Saucy, that's an amazing time! Guaranteed a good for age entry to London next year too. Of course, the only reason I won't be pushing for sub-3 on Sunday is my injured knee, ahem...

Blimey, your average pace over 42km was 10s quicker than my 5k pb, which nearly killed me!

Very well done Saucy. Great time that most can only dream of.

I did spot you on the results this morning and meant to post then but you outed yourself first.

    Be proud Sir.

My run tonight has not been logged somehow.

Fired the android app up later, it doesn't seem to store data locally on the phone anymore, so syncs it and i have lost tonight's run.

This app really pisses me off sometimes.

Might have to try strava, but I like the challenge aspect for motivation.

    Bah.

AP, enjoy Saturday. I've downloaded the App and marked you as favourite, so looking forward to following your progress chasing down the Kenyans!

Sooooooo, anyone combining Pokemon Go with a run? Seems ripe for an app if you ask me, mapped 10k runs optimised for Pokestops and those rare Pokemons.

I tried a 10k earlier, every tried catching whilst running :D Added a certain difficulty to the proceedings.

    Fun times.

So this updated itself on my phone, and now I have NRC (Nike run club)

Can't seem to make it use km instead of miles. Any ideas?
