Driving something new/old/interesting you want to share with the group? I suppose if you're driving some boring piece of crap, you could wax nostalgic about a beloved car of your distant past.

I just want to hear about your cars...

Toyota Celica, red, fast and very comfy.

However its mpg is not so hot (about 30 - 35) and as I'm using the thing a lot (60 miles a day), it will be getting traded in very soon for something totally different like an Aygo (looks and goes like crap, but 70 mpg).

Used to have a Honda VF500 F2. 0-60 in under 3 seconds, (nearly fell off the back first time I opened the accellerator gently) looked and drove amazing.

30 to 35 mpg is nothing to shake a stick at. Especially if it's red, fast, and comfy. I don't know what an Aygo is, but is sure SOUNDS ugly. :)

I was leaving motorcycles out for the moment, but I guess we'll allow yours in. :p

    Volvo V50.
It's less boring than it sounds.
It has the high performance sound package and xenon lights, so it's the equivalent of wearing a suit with sneakers underneath.

A T-reg 1.3L Micra called Jim. Laugh if you want, but I love it, and it's doing over 40 mpg in really horrid driving conditions. Top speed seems to be roughly 95 mph. Coming up to 106,000 miles on the clock but still in great nick. I've been doing about 300 miles a week in it.

I'd like something that did 0-60 a bit quicker though.

    One day I will have a 370Z.

370Z would be nice - not to dismiss Jim. I currently have a Chevrolet Cobalt SS. It's actually much faster than it sounds. It has a lovely 260 hp/260 lb-ft engine and it handles amazingly for a FWD car. However, it has has a problem since it was new and I had to sue General Motors under California's "Lemon Law". Long and short of it is GM is buying it back from me any day now.

Today I ordered a Subaru WRX from the factory, and I am just trying to reassure myself I did the right thing. I love the car, but it won't perform quite to my current car's standards. Plus, I have up to 8 weeks to suffer from buyer's remorse before I even see the thing.

Interesting to hear about other people's cars and wants, though...

Same here, 04 Celica Red. The Red denotes it's a special edition, the car is actually silver.

My next car is currently planned to be a Focus ST, however if my heart rules my head I'd rather go for the new Toybaru due out next year i think.

Yeah, but travelling 60 miles in a 30 mpg car costs about £10 a day at current fuel prices and they are just going up and up. Buying an Aygo will halve my fuel costs (so save about £1400 a year), take me from an insurance group 14 to a 1 (£180 after a lot of shopping around with full no claims to probably being paid to drive it), lower my road tax from £240 to £35 a year and reduce my tyre price from £150 each to £30 each (I change them every 15 months doing 15,000 a year). Yeah it looks like a Ford Ka (i.e not so nice), but its just a thing at the end of the day and even brand new is just £8,000 as opposed to £20,000 that my Celica cost me 10 years ago.

10 years also means that although my Celica has a nice growl (worn baffles), and a satisfying whistle when the injection system kicks in, it is also bound to break something bloody expensive deep within the innards shortly. Besides, I'm 43, I think its a genetic thing that I buy somethign old and sensible.

A piece of shit 97 Renault Megane that won't pass it's next MOT (due in March) so it'll be getting scrapped.

59 plate (so about to be 'old') Honda Type R GT. average 21 mpg.

Yeah I know, "not as good as the ep3" blah blah blah. the difference is 1/2 a car length so stop bitching, I've got a new car, not an old one. If performance means that much to ep3 owners, they would have bought a S2000. Besides, most people couldn't tell you why an ep3 over an fn2 other than what Clarkson told them.

I would have loved to had got a Toyota Celica, Supra, or MR2, but of course Toyota stopped selling performance cars a few years ago.

    @AngeleDei

I didn't mean to suggest it wasn't a sensible decision - just that it sounded ugly. :)

I think a VFR *11000* would be a bit excessive. Unless you are actually trying to leave orbit, that is. ;)
  • Deleted user 17 February 2010 08:35:19
:) Yeah I know cyber_nicco. I was as much convincing myself. I love the Celica, but its just not bloody affordable. I would love to buy another, but as Carlo said, you cant get them, but you have to move on and the fuel costs are starting to kill me. Its not nice knowing its costing me £10 just to get to work. :(

Talking of which, I'm late, so I'm about to get in the old hunk of junk and burn up some motorways... :)

Oh and remove a "0" from that motorbike...sadly...

I am a man of many vehicles. I have a Ford Fusion that is my all right car. Not enough oomph but does around 50mpg and is comfy. For oomph I have a Kawa Z750s and for real fun and tinkering I have a 1972 SIIa Lightweight Land Rover soft top.

Hyundai i20 1.2... Needed a reliable car that's good on fuel economy. They come with a lot of extras that usually wouldn't be standard.

Toyota Celica, fast, all white and very comfy. Mine's the 6 series and would love to Castrol decal up the sides. Costs me a £10 each day for work but a better car's going to cost not much less I reckon and if i were to sell i wouldn't get value for it. It's got at least 160,000 on the clock :-/

Ohh and derailing slightly, if you are interested in keeping track of fuel then take a look at fuelly.com. Bit American-centric but you can log fill ups and it works it all out. You get pretty graphs too!

11 year old Hyundai Accent. Banana yellow. Only drive around 3k miles a year so who cares what it looks like. Need to exchange soon though, 3 doors ain't cutting it.

Currently driving an 07 Renault Laguna estate. Its served me well, though I'm aware of the fact that the current market value is less than the outstanding finance on it so I'm looking to get rid of it and start over instead of continuing to sink money into it.

Being offered a pretty solid deal on a new Vauxhall Astra that would allow me to wash my hands of the Laguna without having to pay anymore, so seriously considering that at the moment.

Seat Leon Cupra R - had it since Oct 2004 so it's getting on a bit. Fancy something different but don't know what.
Having owned two convertibles in the past (Spitfire and a Mercedes 420SL) I quite fancy some open top motoring again, but anything I get also needs to be a family car now that we have a 2 year old to cart about... is this combination possible?

Yep, the missus prefers the A4 to the 3 series. Need to have a proper look at boot space and the size of the back seats...
Thing is, he's only 2 so by the time he needs a decent amount of leg room I'll have bought another car anyway...
