Registered 16 years agoNY is a new world city designed with an old world ideology.
LA is a new world city through and through. -

Registered 17 years agoHow do you even go for a drink in LA? Everything is miles apart, there's no public transport and very few taxis. It's the only place I have ever agreed to take a lift from someone who was obviously drunk. -

Registered 19 years agoI remember the first time I visited New York. I nearly shit my pants it was that amazing. Manhattan is the most amazing man-made place on Earth, by FAR. It blows every other collect achievement humanity has produce.
I can't even imagine what it'll be like 50 years from now, assuming it doesn't get nuked. -

Registered 18 years agoOff tomorrow!! \o/
A mate's asked me to pick up an iPod classic for him in NY, as he hates the EU volume limiter.
I suppose I can ditch the box and packaging and just chuck the iPod in my rucksack.
If I don't, what's the likelihood of being stopped by Customs on the way back in to the UK? It's 20 years since I last went to the US. -
Eh, you'll be absolutely fine. -

Registered 15 years agoI've been stopped a couple times (once was escorted down to be questioned in a small room...must look like a terrorist) but just take it out the box to be sure. That's what I did when I bought my PS3 in America. Just stuck it on my bag. -

Keep it in the box you'll be fine. If you're going through JFK keep a pen on you as the passport control is one of the worst in the world, make sure you fill your slip correctly. -

Er, right. I've been to other more impressive cities. Hong Kong, as otto mentioned, is vastly more impressive and beautiful, with some amazing extremes of wealth and poverty which make it one of the most amazing places I've ever seen. Proper Blade Runner stuff.
Manhattan is impressive in it's way though, tiny compared to most other cities, but what there is of it is tall, famous and therefore impressive.
Thank you for that pic of Hong Kong - it makes me want to visit. I have heard fantastic things about it in the past year, but had no idea it was all Bladerunner at night! -

Registered 13 years agoI stayed in Brooklyn for a week and loved it
Can't wait to get back one day. NYC is like a City themepark, but I liked living outside of it.
Subway pass rules too, easy to get to and from the airport with it as well. -

Correct. The one on the corner of 49th and Lexington I think, was amazing. Fresh coffee, every possible muffin you can think of, delicious hot food, fantastic salad bar, iced cold juices and obviously a great grill with loads of hot breakfast options.
The delis are AWESOME.

Registered 17 years agoPersonally I'd visit San Francisco and Boston over LA and NY any day. Much nicer cities. And Japan Town in San Francisco is lovely (although I didn't get to see Little Tokyo in LA)!
The one thing I'll say about NY is that the pizza there is like no other pizza. It's like drinking Guinness in Dublin. -

Registered 13 years agoI liked SF a lot when I was there in 2001 but I thought Boston (last year) was really quite dull. Philly was really great though, and I liked Baltimore, if only for our Wire pilgrimage.
NYC pizza is awesome, agreed. By the slice, anytime. Mmm. -

Screw Tokyo, I want to go to Hong Kong now. -
It was even better when they still had the airport in the middle of town and you got to land and take off in between the buildings.
