Registered 3 years agoThat's where my problem with veganism starts - trying to recreate analogs of non-vegan food. It's rarely good and often more unhealthy.
It's why I gave user Convz a hard time - he posted things like that tanned bald elderly man's head and claimed it to be a vegan roast chicken -

Still yet to find a good vegan pizza anywhere. The vegan cheese in a mozzarella style is always horrible. -

That is a good call and usually what I do. A bunch of vegan pizza places have popped up around me and they are all crap.

Yes, exactly. Going all for processed crap is never going to be healthy.

Not sure you're the target market for CEO Roger Veganburger though. Need to convince the Maccys crowd that vegan is tasty. Imitating the most popular foods is a simple starting point.

Registered 3 years agoI totally get that, but it's turning into another looming marketing public health problem, equating vegan to healthy, like the low fat campaigns which STILL somehow has legs -

Registered 6 years agoI’m veggie not vegan but today I’ve had an unintentionally and deeply unhealthy all vegan day - two packets of crisps, two date bars, three cans of pop a steak bake, two sausage rolls, a slice of toast and an apple.
My skin is practically see-through with grease.
Long work commitment with no real time for a proper break. -

Registered 17 years agoI've never understood that either. Surely if you go vegan or veggie you should just embrace those foods that are naturally available, rather than desperately trying to recreate the foods you've decided not to eat. -

Registered 14 years agoI have no problem with meat substitute if people have decided they want to cut it out for moral reasons. I like a nice Beyond Burger now and again, and I know it's processed as fuck and not good for me. -

Registered 14 years agoNever gonna give up meat entirely, but I would pick vegan food more often, if those soy and plant-based vegan alternatives weren't so damn expensive. I thought veggies were supposed to be cheaper than meat, not the other way around.
Still don't eat a lot of meat, because legumes are better anyway.

Why do meat eaters eat sausage rolls instead of lean cuts of steak?

Registered 3 years agoThat doesn't quite work -
I think the desire to have meat analogues is pretty understandable, especially if your a vegan for ethical reasons as opposed to health reasons.
I draw the line at things pretending to be actual cuts of meat, but things like sausages and burgers are so far removed from cuts of meat anyway it hardly seems to matter. I've had some very good vegan and veggie sausages and burgers, better than some cheap meat ones.
I've no problem with unhealthy vegans as long as they don't pretend they're healthy. Used to know somebody who gorged on crisps and had meals consisting of a tray of various chips / potato based snacks, with vegan mayonaisse. She was a fat fucker, but had the audacity to complain about how veganism was healthier... no, not in your case. -

Registered 7 years agoI love eating meat, and think it can be OK to raise animals for slaughter and consumption.
However, I am trying to cut down total consumption and trying to buy higher quality from good sources (e.g. not mass farmed etc), for animal welfare and environmental reasons.
If a vegan sausage roll tastes like a meat sausage roll, then that it is pretty awesome, cos I can enjoy it. There is a cafe near me that actually is 100% vegan, but doesnt advertise it anywhere. Their sausage rolls are fantastic.
Also, being allergic to dairy and eggs, the increase in vegan stuff is brilliant for me! Vegan cupcakes, vegan chocolate mousse, vegan potato salad, etc.
All that being said, I also don't generally go in for vegan cheese, however often my wife tries to give it to me. Vegan cream cheese tastes like the real thing I understand, though. -

To be fair I only have one good vegan mate and he really struggled at the start. All* vegan bacon, sausages, cheese etc are terrible. So everything he made and I tried was mediocre at best. Then he started trying to make good vegan food as opposed to recreating meat meals and it was a game changer so much tasty food if you embrace the vegetables rather than trying to make a substitute.

It’s ok for adding a flavour to something else. Like I shred it up and add it to spagbol - but if you expect to have a bacon roll, it’s like putting some frazzles on your roll

tesco have much larger fake meat products section now, they have beyond burgers (£5 for 2 which is more than real meat) but probably going to try them at the weekend. Are they any good?
As someone who likes eating meat, I sometimes have quron type product, the sausages tend to be a little spongy in texture.
